I noticed my suspension making some noises over the past week; I figured things just needed to be re-torqued. Today I go to take a look and find this. I haven't done any off-roading recently, only daily driving to and from work (8 miles). I bought the UCA's brand new about 3 years ago, so about 50k miles on them.

I need some advice... Is this a known problem with LR UCA's? Anybody have a similar experience? Will they help me with something like this?

Also, is it ok to continue driving with this? I don't know how long it has been like this, but I can't imagine it happened too long ago.

    Thanks for any input.

Yup. Give LR a call and they will get you out a new one. They have been really good with CS, especially when they see this kind of stuff happen

It looks like you have the older style setup with 4 washers on each arm. Two on the outside and two on the inside of each side of the arm. They now use only two washers per arm, both on the outside.
Are those the original bushings? If so they have changed those as well.
I'm sure LR will send you some new arms.

Yeah, great customer service from a company that should be recalling ALL of these! Would you really replace these with another set from them? TW seems to be the Guinea Pigs for this company and we're/they're fortunate that no one has been hurt or died in the process.

All over again. You results may vary but I wonder if anyone is keeping a tally as to how many have failed.

If you call them up - I bet they'll replace them.

If I was out on a trail, I'd drive it back to pavement and then call AAA.

If the truck was already in my driveway, I'd park it until I replaced them. If I had to drive a short distance to a garage/shop, I'd probably go ahead and do that, assuming not on freeway or over about 35mph.

If the other side goes (and it's under more stress now) "unpredictable driving results may occur." ;-)

its a design that shouldnt have been sold.

Mine broke once, replaced and then they had a bushing update. I got rid of them after that. SPC is a joke.

The old arm design usually suffered from this failure because people torqued the bolts with the truck on the hoist and then when the truck was lowered onto the ground , the rotational forces of the bushings were being tranfered to the arms resulting in the breaks at the arms where they meet the bushing housing

The new bushings stop this issue from happening

That's one upside to the story. Another upside is that you'll get really good at working on these gems. After you deal with the bushings failing and the arms breaking the ball joints are next. JUNK!

As far as driving it the crack is bigger in the last photo than in the first photo...

Well , I'm not trying to sell them to you so I'm glad you found a product that works for you , I haven't had any issues with mine and like I said previously the failures like the OP had are found in the old style arms and bushings

I spoke with a customer service rep today and they're sending me a new set. Customer service was great, and he said I'll be getting the new design. Obviously, I'm still upset about the performance of the one that broke. No way that should happen in the first place (especially commuting to work and back). We'll see how the new ones work out.

    Thanks for the input.
