Hey man, if PPG paint is good enough for Gulfstream, it’s good enough for my pile.

sure as shit beats the factory super white paint job from Toyota:rofl:

Found a guy on marketplace who welded in some slots for my trailer ramps and a way to lock them down. Dude was super impressive. Started shooting the shit with him, he has an LS swapped jeep. I asked him about roll cages, and he said he actually just installed a TE cage in a Tacoma recently. I asked him what his pricing on labor to do it is, and he said if I drop it off to him with the interior removed, that it would be pretty fair. I asked him what it was, and it was unbelievable.

so I’m ordering the TE cage. He’s gonna throw it in for me. Said it would take him about a week to do it. Probably will happen in 2-3 months. Not quite ready to pull the trigger on this yet, but this makes it way more attainable. Also cool to see his work on the trailer. Welds are all awesome. I guess he’s a pipeline welder during the day, and does the fab stuff as a side hustle.

I’m too lazy to scroll back through this thread so I’ll ask instead….did you apply sound deadening to the floor, walls, ceilings and in the doors previously?

A week for the cage!? I got a buddy dropping his truck off in a few weeks for the te cage and I told him a couple months. But that’s what it took for me to do mine from scratch. Hope it’s easier than expected. But also know my buddy is going to snowball and he already has. Added engine cage, seats, custom bumper and intercom/radio system while I have it. I’m sure there will be more as I work through everything for him lol.

That’s what I’m saying. Blew my mind. I guess he’s works 4 12’s then is off for 3 days, and works on it when he’s off shift and on his days off. Kinda shocked, I wouldn’t be mad if it took a month. But a week?!

Cage is a serious safety item. Just make sure he doesn’t cut any corners. Not saying it couldn’t be done in 40-60hrs with a kit and you doing the prep of tear down. Especially if he’s done one or two before. But as a side gig guy myself, I quoted my buddy 100hrs for the cage and a rough 100hrs for the engine cage, bumper and other work.

    leaning towards it

Yeah I imagine I’ll be over there a bit with him while he’s doing it. I took a look at his jeep he has, and everything on that truck looks super super good. Looked like it could’ve been at Barrett Jackson. All of the welds on the trailer looks super super awesome too, which is a huge confidence booster.

Anyone have part numbers for the exterior window trim moldings/weather stripping? I want to replace all 4 doors since it’s coming off anyways in paint.

All the top rubber can be reused. My 05 rubber was good as new, just dirty.
The “Belt Line” rubber/molding across the top of the door where you would lay your arm on are will need replacing. Just give the your Toyota parts guy the VIN #. My reg. cab is a different door.

Oh, 180g on a DA should have been aggressive enough to remove the vinyl.
And I know you picked out a color change but “I” would have stayed with the factory color. Because unless the painter is willing to prep really prep the door jams and etc. the paint not going to stick and flake, then will look like crap!
Stick with factory color, two tone, stripes, fades or whatever but stay with the factory color as your main color.

I hate white vehicles. Sticking with Toyota super white was not an option. He’s also not doing the jambs. 60 grit took me and my wife 5 hours a piece. Would’ve been 15 hours a piece with 180 grit lol. It doesn’t really matter. The painter is a super solid dude, he’s prepping the entire truck, so.

I wish haha. I shoot for $100/hr usually. But he’s getting buddy pricing.

I know earlier in the thread you mentioned her thoughts about this truck; I'm super ecstatic to hear that you've had a change of heart to keep it, and that she's badass enough to help you sand it, even after some not-so-great feelings towards it prior!

I can speak for Ryan and his fab work & welding skills are top notch plus he and his family are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met‼️
I still need him to do the same job as he did for me before but on another truck but it sounds like I’m going to have to wait for awhile. Oh well…

Yeah I mean she's been a trooper. She still isn't in love with the idea of keeping this thing, but we've both established that we need to just treat this truck as a toy and not care about it so much/spend so much time working on it. Its also this things last chance to shape up. If it blows a motor or trans again, thats all she wrote.

Welp. Hired some super sketchy dudes to come throw in a mini split in the garage. Install itself was dope, but the electrical was super ghetto. Looked like crap on the side of the house, so I spent the latter half of my day redoing all of their electrical work, repairing stucco from where they slapped it up on the wall, and repainting the wall and conduit and refrigerant line covers. Now we got icy cold air in there. We’re getting ready to do a full interior renovation in the house, and while they’re doing it, they’re gonna redo our garage and insulate it too!
