I don't know anything what fan controller would be best nor am I an expert at wiring accessories lol, I just try to follow basic best practices when it comes to circuit design and protection.

I've seen what happens when the unfused mystery wires coming off the battery find a ground :bananadead:

If the MSD is like the other fan controllers that I mentioned and is a PWM, it will act as a soft start. Kicking the fan on slowly and ramping it up to its full set point. That will greatly reduce the instant on rush current, which is burning the wires.

Per the BP Automotive engine controller kit instructions I received, normal operating temp for many LS based engines is between 220°-230°

Well the solid state relay kit is on the way. I’m still planning on dropping the truck off tomorrow morning for its center console, so I’ll take care of it when it’s back I guess.

I figured solid state makes the most sense, less shit to break or fail, and it’s water proof.

Maybe for a "maximum" operating temp, I would want to keep "normal" operating temp in the 180-210F range.

The only vehicles I've ever seen that run that high of an operating temp are the little GM economy cars like the Spark, Sonic, and Cruze, they tend to sit around 220ish.

Yea, I did a double take when I saw it lol. It was actually in the fan relay instructions where it said that, and it also says that you may have to allow the engine warm up all the way to 230* to check if the fan relays are working correctly o_O

I agree. I saw mine hit 226 at a very long red light and I was freaking out still lol. 210 is what I aim to keep mine at

yeah my 14” soap fans are like 68 amps of inrush with a normal operating of 14 amps. I ended up with 30 amp fuses working before I finally went to an ecu master pdm and that’s when I found the inrush. For a 16” I imagine it will be well over 70-80 inrush, but by my graph it’s only about 1-1.5 seconds of inrush.

my rule is 220 I shut the truck off. When it operates with one fan only, It was stable at 219. Made it 10 miles home. Was shitting myself the whole time.

They advertise the MSD as a suitable relay system for fans, hopefully the inrush doesn’t freak it out.

that’s pretty cool you’re able to see current draws and stuff like that. I wonder what Holley has to offer. I know they have some stuff like that, not that I really need it.

I wouldn't call 220 the danger zone, definitely in the caution zone though.

Yeah Holley calls 220+ caution also. Highlights it yellow on the screen. I think 240+ it turns red

    • 34" wide x 19" tall x 3" thick (7.5" thick including fan)
    • Standard filler neck
    • Right side connections double pass configuration
    • 1.5" inlet & outlet diameter
    • Dual 16" Spal fans - 3836 CFM combined
    • 2 rows of 1" wide tubes
      IMG_3467.jpg

Yep it’s mounted in the bed:
      IMG_0836.jpg

And yeah I do have an engine oil cooler, 10AN lines, setrab 9 series 20 row cooler with dual fans, activated by the Holley above 170*. Haven’t seen temps get over that though.

And for transmission, I have two Derale race series coolers with 8an lines and an improved racing fluid thermostat.

Vent slots in that radiator shroud would be even better.

Well that’s a load of horse shit. I ordered the exact same light direct from Baja Designs last week, and they shipped it the next day.

I filed a chargeback against these guys and that finally got their asses in gear. Pretty annoyed though considering that a nice guy on Facebook actually produced me a new 3rd brake light using CF Nylon. IMG_3458.jpg
    So aggravating.

mine is a 31x19x3 ron davis with the 14" fans, never seen coolant temps above 205 i think. also never ran in arizona heat during the summer so....lol. but my fans are on the top side pulling aft and up to move hot air away

Sometimes I wish mine was mounted that way for the aesthetic, but then having condenser mounted and serviceable would be a lot
    More difficult.

That's kinda the size I was looking at, but mine will be front mount so should get very good airflow
