Damn. That is disappointing to wake up and read.

Did you leave the truck in the desert or get it on a trailer and back to diagnose it?

Literally just got home here at 6 AM, called one of my buddies at 12:00, he was out the door by 12:30, got to me at 2:15, and he flat towed me all the way back home.

Good question. There’s trans fluid everywhere. Huge puddles where I broke down. The thing is though, there’s no fluid on the pan, near the dipstick, nothing. But the tcase and crossmember are soaked. Like soaked soaked. Im wondering if the rear output seal between the trans and tcase blew out. I’m not really sure. In either case, I may get lucky and not have torched this transmission. I didn’t try and drive on it at all besides giving it 2-3k rpm at first to get moving, but it didn’t engage at all. Like the valve body was still in neutral. I might just bring it to a trans shop and have them tell me what happened? I don’t know of any non sketchy ones here in phoenix though.

Also I’ve developed an oil leak, but again not really sure where from.

I can’t afford to sink any more money into this truck. It’s been such a deep rabbit hole every 2 weeks with this thing. I really want to just sell it or part it out and wash my hands clean of it.

My wife was with me tonight and she is not happy. She already hates this truck and now it left us stranded, so she’s pretty much written it off.

Oh yeah, to add insult to injury, before the trans issue….

I said to my wife, hey, my hoods kinda moving around a bit, and not 2 seconds later the hood flys up and shatters my windshield, fucks up my SDHQ ditch mounts, and Baja squadron pro’s. The failure???

the hood latch and core support are totally perfect, but the “d ring” that’s manufactured as part of the hood, broke off. It was still locked firmly in my hood latch. It straight up tore my Steel hood ring.

So I guess hood pins are important, even on factory hoods.

So here I was, in the middle of a thunderstorm, with a ratchet strap holding my hood down, being flat towed 40+ miles in some of the rockiest shittiest terrain I’ve ever driven.

Gonna catch some sleep and hopefully wake up to this being a bad dream.

Damn dude this sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

Hood pins are a must I’d say. Heard of this happening a few too many times to people and it’s cheap and easy insurance.

Motor and trans issues…not sure what to say about that. As much as you’ve been through I know my wife would be feeling the same way. Sorry it was a rough night.

Same exact piece broke on mine. Thankfully I had already installed my aerocatch hood latches. But the aerocatch came with aluminum catch pins. Those snapped also in the middle of Death Valley. Ratchet strap time for the rest of the trip. Aerocatch makes steel ones that Iordered and have not broke yet. Offroading just breaks shit. Gotta get used to it.

Seen those u-bolt things rip out before on the hood. Hood pins are basically mandatory for sure. Sucks about your windshield...

The trans issue, yeah that sucks majorly. I don't understand why you have had so many insane issues. It's crazy! Literally every other page on this thread is a problem that leaves the truck dead.

That sucks dude. The truck is definitely making you work for the short times you can drive it.

Do you have any engine codes since dumping its guts under the truck?

Sounds like maybe a seal blew, or your cooler lines came off, or the oil came out the vent tubes or something and you lost oil pressure so the trans couldn't go into gear...

Hopefully it's something easy, but with your luck, probably not

Bummer. The hood is not surprising unfortunately. Hopefully the transmission is just a cooler line or something that worked its way loose.

Before the hood latch? Yeah I was having a decent time, after the hood latch? I was pissed. After the trans? I wrote off this truck as ever being able to be functional.

I appreciate it man. I don’t know if she’ll ever be open to the idea of this truck again. If she does, it might just have to sit for a while.

This wouldn’t be a huuuuuge deal if the other issues didn’t happen, just mildly infuriating.

LS swapping my truck is my biggest regret.

    It’s never a 15$ fix either…

No, no codes. The Holley doesn’t really do codes, it just tells you info.

cooler lines are good. I do want to check my vent tube though, since my exhaust is an open dump at the collector, I torched my vent tubes, but I wonder if they’ve just continued to melt until they sealed shut. Not sure.

Unfortunately I’m not that lucky. Otherwise I would’ve been able to fix myself on the trail last night

    yeah….
