    Whole lotta stuff
Question, this Solo kit I’m trying to sell. I have a potential buyer asking what years of 4Runner it will work on. I’m not super familiar with 4runners, anyone remember which years it was that share the same geometry with the FJ cruiser and 2nd gen Tacoma?

You'll need different steering extensions. 4th Gen only.

I think the spindles have a different taper for the upper Ball Joint. This is a convo I had w Randy @EatSleepTacos awhile back. Not sire if it will affect his install.

Call up solo I'd say if you want to make 100% sure since they offer parts for 4runners.

I got that info from @y=mx+b as he is well versed on the specifics. He would be able to say for sure.

Yes the 4runners have different upper and lower ball joints. 4runner taper shaft on the ball joint part is definitely bigger, which would mean the little mating surface in the spindle would also be different. At one point I had both tacoma and 4runner ball joints on my bench and there is a visual difference in size. Story behind that is I bought Tacoma SPCs 2nd hand and swapped ball joints for my 4runner

Inner tie rods are also different. I think its the same dealio with the taper. Not sure if the rack threading is the same, because if it was the same, could just swap to appropriate ITR.

Wheel bearings and CVs the same

The UCA mount on the coil bucked is for sure the same, because the arm itself, sans UBJ, is the exact same on SPC arms. LCA mounting points I'd assume are the same, but don't have any direct experience there

Front shocks transfer 4runner to tacoma easily

As far as 4runner to 4runner year compatibility, 03-22 is mostly the same. Technically the 5th gen lower shocks eye is like 1mm wider or something, but you can either do a little shaving on that or spread the ears on the LCA. 14+ 4runner brakes also use larger bolts into the knuckle (I think its 17mm vs 14mm). but for the most part, they did a little ctr+c for the last 20 yrs of 4runner.

So different hardware is all you'd need and Solo could sell just what's needed @Supra4x4

Get a price and see how much your potential buyer would want to spend.

Probably should have put this at the end as a conclusion:

I'm not sure whats all involved in the solo kit, but the short answer is that you need the UBJ, Spindle, OTR, and LBJ need to all be matchy matchy. If its a LT kit which probably replaces a lot of those, might be a good shot of it working

Yeah ball joints are replaced by tapered uniball spacers and steering extension goes between the ITR and the OTR.

All this is correct @y=mx+b, the rack to inner tie thread size is different too, 4Runner is bigger.

Axles, while interchangeable, the CV’s are not the same as Tacoma. The FJ and 4Runner have 30 spline CV’s. Tacoma’s are 29 spline. The inner cv tulip cup is slightly different as well. The outer two stub shafts are the same though, hence the diff and wheel bearing compatibility.

Also the mounting distance between the LCA pivots is about 3/8” larger per side center to center when viewed from the front on the Tacoma.

You mean you’ll need bigger bushings or lca’s aren’t interchangeable? I sold my +2 Baja Kits kit to a 4runner guy on here and I remember him running it for awhile.

to clarify, I mean center to center when viewed from the front. Also fj and 4Runner m have larger diameter rear cams, but that pretty easy to do a bushing swap. I have all Tacoma parts on my FJ.

Lower control arm bolts for the bushings are bigger on the new 4runners, will need the right inner sleeves for the cam bolts

The lower ball joint taper deosnt really matter as the solo lowers are pictured with the adapters to the two spindle bolts which are the same spread in both spindle/knuckles. Unless you're keeping the adpaters

To me to make it work with the 4runner spindles you need the right mislalignment for the 4runner upper arm ball joint taper

New tie rod extensions for the 4runner inners

    4runner axle shafts if 4wd

And correct innner diameter inner sleeves for the lower arm bushing pivots
