    MECHANICAL HELP:

Attached are photos of my tie rod making contact with my coil-over. Im not sure if, or what is needed to be done to resolve this. Ive attempted to find my answer via our fabulous inter-web, but being non-mechanically inclined as I am, i'm having a very difficult time finding the answers.

If the tie rod needs to be replaced, does anyone know what ones I should be looking into? I searched through Camburg as they are my long travel set up, but was unable to find any recommendations or guidance from their website or other informational sources.

Any and all help will be MUCH appreciated!LT Tie Rod01.jpg

I think if you didn't have the bracket lift, you wouldn't be running into this problem.

I see you have a drop bracket, what kind of spindle are you running? Is it a factory spindle or the spindle that came with that bracket?

I thought this was a common issue with Camburg and other kits. No?

Not sure if you mounted tie rod from top or from bottom. But maybe if you came from the bottom it would drop below springs, not sure your second gen but my 1st gen i come from below.

My Camburg kit has a little rub as well, not to this extent to where the coil coating is worn and metal is rusting, but a little abrasion.

I’ve been thinking of upgraded tie rods with heims, but a larger diameter rod would probably run more and cause more clearance issues.

I don’t have a drop bracket kit, but I do have maxtrac spindles.

My chaos kit used to do this. It has to do with your alignment.

Here is what chaos sent me for alignment procedures..

There is increased caster angle built into all TOTAL CHAOS suspension systems. When setting alignment, if you try to set caster to factory spec, you will most likely not be able to get the camber and toe in spec.First set the camber between -1 degree and +1degree, then set the toe. Anywhere from 3.5 to 6.0 degrees of caster is acceptable and will vary from vehicle to vehicle depending upon:

    • Vehicle model
    • Suspension kit purchased
    • Prior vehicle modifications
    • Desired coilover spring pre-load and or ride height

Total Chaos’ suspension products are designed to align with aftermarket shocks that are set to the recommended amount of lift. Some vehicles may not correctly align if the ride height is altered from the recommended settings. If you have followed all of the instructions and the vehicle still won’t align correctly, it’s likely that there is something installed wrong, or the frame mounting points and/or knuckles may be bent or damaged.

Add positive caster if you can. It will move the bottom of the coilover forward and the coil bucket back, angling your coilover back. Which will help with moving the coilover away from the tie rod.

Adding caster will throw off all your alignments so take it to a shop unless you know what you are doing. When I do my alignments I do the Caster 1st, Camber 2nd, Toe 3rd then straighten the steering wheel.

*Hope this make sense been watching the Dodgers game forever and I'm tired...

Mine does the same thing. Called total chaos they said it's pretty common, due to my tire size I have to push my caster forward. Everything is fine 30k later no issues yet
