I use Co-op Farmland Moly Gard 500+ Grease on my o6 Tacoma drive shaft. It is multipurpose, suitable for many applications, has a high melting point (above 500 degrees). It extends bearing life, is long lasting, and water resistant. It contains molybdenum disulfide. It is a high temp lithium complex with moly for all automotive use. It is water resistant with rust & corrosion inhibitors (#1 cause of bearing failure in my opinion) so it is excellent for u-joints. Its selected base stocks are combined with base grease and special additives to resist bleeding and seperation, ensuring a long lasting lubricant. It is recomended for U-joints, wheel bearins and all chassis fittings.

:D No, Co-op is not cutting me in. I was just reading all the posts about which grease to use. Seems light there was a lot of different opinions about grease. I sure thought this grease had all the bases covered for u-joints. When my truck gives a "clump" noise when I put in in gear, I know its time to get some grease in them bearings.

Yes... make sure it's NGLI #2 non moly

I use Mobil 1 Sythetic grease for all 5 zerks. It's red and sold at auto parts stores. Or just use regular grease. They are 6 bucks for the M! adn 3 bucks for regular.

So you've made the point, now tell me your u-joints dont throw out any grease with your non-moly. Any throw back on the transfer case or undercarriage? I may switch if thats the case. Can you guarantee the grease has not hardened in the caps with non moly and provided insufficient lubrications. If so youve converted me over.

I'll take a look today when I finally get back under the truck. The only grease it was throwing was the excess that was leftover when I originally did them a week or so ago.

Same here and when I regrease them after a few pumps its squirting out the end cap cracks. So there is still some grease in them from last time. I aint saying the Mobile synthetic grease is bad. Its probably good. I just dont want grease in there thats going to harden and wont come out. I know the Moly Gard 500+ isnt hardening.

Well Chris 4X4 Said his has been using it for 10 years no issues, if the grease hasn't hardened in 10 years I'm sure it's safe.

    Chris 4X4 knows his stuff.

Hey I forgot who it was but wasn't someone on here having trouble taking off the bolt on the front differential to change out their differential oil? I'm just wondering if they ever got it off and if they did, how they did it so I know when I need to change mine out!:D

Smart ass. Well, I "gotter done!! That imapct wrench I picked up from Harbor Freight seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. My stock impact wrench, the one that came with the compressor, seemed to be the issue. It could only do like 110 ft/lbs. The Harbor Freight one could like 625 ft/lbs. It was the Central Pneumatic Earthquake. It was like $86 plus I had a 20% off coupon. It's similar to the Ingersoll Rand Thunder Gun, but way the hell cheaper. In any case I put the new impact wrench on the bolts and they came right out, so much so that when I did the drain plug it spun out and put oil all over the garage floor. [IMG] Thanks again for the replies fellas.

Just to clear up any questions, this is straight from the FSM under the Chassis Maintenance section MA, page MA-10.

The U-Joint Flange Yoke torque specification is 65 ft.lbs.

modified total chaos uppers and lowers... king coilovers, deaver leafs, full cage, 351w motor swap, etc..

just a fyi.... the slip yoke allows the driveshaft to lengthen as the axle compresses up to "bump out" and will shorten as the axle falls to "full droop".

It extends as it droops, and shortens when the suspension compresses.

Does the manual actually call for disassembling and lubing the spline?
