Anyone used Lucas Heavy Duty 80W-90 Gear Oil in the transfer case? I know the weight is a little off but i am more worried about the syncros than the wight issue. What aftermarket oil do you guys run in the transfer case?

What climate are you in? Do you tow or offroad?

We stick to 75w90 up here in Prairie Canada, I personally only run regular dino oil for light duty trucks.

I run Lucas 80W-90 in my t-case, has been great. Don't forget that you can purchase a gallon for less than 4 individual quarts and save a bit of money. (Do the diffs at the same time.)

I bought 2 gallons hoping it would be enough to do my tacoma and 4runner. It looks like the front diff takes 1.15 quarts, the rear diff takes 2.75 quarts and the transfer case takes 1.1 quarts so hopefully 1 gallon is enough to do one truck.

I always buy my gear oil from pep boys on ebay they have it for $25 a gallon and shipping is free if i buy 2 gallons. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lucas-Oil-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I always need more than 1 gallon to do all three...but you can do one truck and see how much you have left. Then, if you're going to need a third gallon, just wait to do the second truck :).

Also, don't forget that you'll need a pump to get the oil out of the gallon jug and into the various cases. (or a funnel in the case of the rear diff)

I'm way too young to be posting often though. Median age on that site is 60+ bickering about how horrible ABS and power windows are.

Automatic transmissions, power steering and air conditioning, just a waste of power.

Lmao you're too correct. I don't post there either. Too much info to just try to absorb there and then try to pass along to help others. Most folks though don't wanna know if/when they could do things better regarding oil or oil changes for some reason.....:stirthepot::D

No but that makes me feel better about running Lucas in the transfer case and not some $20 a quart full synthetic.

I changed out front, rear diffs and t-case today. It took a little over a gallon but it's done. My front drain plug was being a pain and i was using a 3/8" hex socket because i could not find my 10mm. I remember seeing a guy on here who stripped his so i was trying to be careful. I ended up giving it a few good whacks with a big hammer and it came loose really easy. I could not fit the gallon jug and the pump under the truck with stock tires. So i ended up recycling a sriracha bottle taking the twist top off and removing the little nub on the end that holds the twist top and using it to fill the t-case. It worked really well and was much faster than them pumps that take forever. The front diff was a pain though i had to use the pump.

Our Toyotas actually like siracha sauce so you're all set.

My truck was built in California; it prefers wasabi.
