I tried to rotate my tires, and check on the brakes while I had the tires off. The "key" lug nut and one other lug nut came right off. The other 4 I got turning but they won't come off. Either the threads of the lugs are gone, or the threads on the studs are gone, or maybe both..

Almost all of the independent shops are closed today. The ones that are open do not have time in their schedule. They mentioned torching them off but it ruin's the rim.

I can get a ride for more tools and stuff but would like to go to Maine for Sunday. I could take it to a chain place that is open. Worse case is that I miss the party in Maine and have it towed somewhere Monday morning.

    Any other options/ideas?

Your stud is no longer gripping the back of the hub. You are going to have to find a way to hold it stationary as you spin the lug off. I don't deal with those often so YouTube is my suggestion for those sort of situations, but you have to find a way to hold the rear of the stud to prevent it from spinning with the lug.

Put the two you took off back on and make the party...

Stock lugs are two piece. It might be the case where your outer casing has detached from the inner part...

(Editorial... members who don't post vehicle specifics make it more difficult when they ask for advice....just sayin)

Oh yeah those aluminum clad garbage style lugs. I forgot about those. Toyota pulled a page off of Chrysler with that brilliant idea.

Split it with air chisel. If you have a dremel cut a slot for the chisel to start. You have six studs so driving on 5 temporarily is fine. Just stop occasionally and make sure the five are still torqued

Sorry I didn't post specifics about my car. It's a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, 4 door, 4 wheel drive, off road with tow package.

I don't think it's a 2 piece lug. If it is then shame on Toyota for doing that, and I will be replacing them all with a 1 piece version. The "lock" lug did come right off though...

If they do still tighten then yes I will drive it around, but I will not take it to Maine, just to a local shop on Monday morning.

I haven't seen a Tacoma beginning with my 2000 that didn't come without a 2 piece lug nut.

Believe the last price I got from the dealer when they replaced 2 of mine was $7.50/ea.

Maybe it is a 2 piece. They have just gotten old and need to be replaced... I'm waiting for it to cool off a little then I'll go outside and take another look. I was just looking at 2 piece lugs on the internet and they do look a lot like what I have.

Anyone have any experience with 1 piece replacement lug nuts? I could also buy 5 more sets of "locking" 1 piece lug nuts.

Take a pic . I had luck using vise grips removing cover on lug nut . Just grip it and rock back and forth. Then use smaller 6 point socket to remove . Your rims alloy or steel. Uses different style lug nuts.

Is the stud spinning with the nut?

I just got one of the stuck lug nuts off. They are a two piece. The covers on all of them are in bad shape. I took the keyed one off with a 21 mm. The one I just got off I had to pound on a 22mm. I'm going to jack it back up and try to see if the same technique will work on the rest.

One thing is for sure I am replacing them all with a 1 piece lug.

    Good news.

All lug nuts have been removed. The wheel was still stuck but a 2x4 and a sledge hammer fixed that. Front left brakes are fine and will easily last the rest of the summer. All studs are fine as well

I did take a look at some of the other lugs on the other tires. They all look a lot better than these 5. But I tried two just to see if the 21mm socket would fit over them. One it did, the other it did not.

I have arranged for a ride to the parts store tomorrow. I am going to buy 5 of the cheapest lug nuts that will fit. I can then re-attach the tire and drive the truck again with confidence that the wheel will not fall off, until I decide to remove it again.

I am also going to go on-line and find 20 lug nuts that are a 1 piece design. When they show up here I will replace all of the non-locking lugs nuts on the truck. I'll keep the cheap ones from the auto-parts store as spares.

After that the front tire does show un-even wear on the outside edge. While this may not mean it needs an alignment it might be time.

Not gonna say I told you so :D.

There's gonna be a lot of crust on your 10 year old Tacoma. I'd recommend searching the forum for anything you're planning on doing.

Get yourself a set of one piece Gorilla lugs.

Its actually 11. I'm the original owner, and while it's a 2009 I got it in 2008. I was looking on the bottom and it is starting to rust. Nothing like the 98 I had though.
