In my never ending quest to make my truck my own, I need to replace the stock steel wheels on my base model, due to rust and the finish peeling. Mostly I’ve been looking at stock replacement wheels, and the ones I see the most are the 3rd gen TRD off road wheels. I see a lot of them selling without TPMS sensors or lug nuts, which makes me wonder if the stock lugs from my steel wheels will work with Toyota alloy wheels?

    TIA

    No, steels have acorn nuts.
Most people swap alloy to alloy wheel

Be advised that 3rd Gen TPMS aren't compatible with 2nd Gens. Steel & Alloy wheels also have different TPMS......

^This. Toyota alloy wheels have a “unique” lug nut. The OEM style are available aftermarket tho and I’m sure people on this thread are also selling them

Didn’t know about the 3rd gen/2nd gen difference in TPMS, so that’s helpful.

I’ll budget for a set of lug nuts for whatever wheels I wind up with.

As a note any aftermarket black lug nuts will require a few coats of addition Rustoleum paint before putting on or they will rust within a year - just a heads up as easy to do originally. As others said steel uses acorn style and alloy uses the flat style with a washer. Looking at the flat alloy style they have a very short taper on the end so they can be used on a steel spare rim as temporary (Owners Manual states this).
