    I've searched on this forum and talked to a sales associate from 2 different tire shops and I keep getting conflicting answers to my question regarding whether the lugs on my aftermarket rims will work with my factory spare. I have black rhino Rockwell rims. Anyone know if I need a spare set of lugs to mount the spare?

    If the lug nuts on your aftermarket wheels are "mag seat" (they use a washer like the stock wheels) they will work with the spare. If your aftermarket wheels use an "acorn" (uses a 45 degree taper) then you may have an issue. I know on my spare I cannot use my aftermarket wheel's acorn lug nut because there is not enough mating surface. I ended up finding this out when I ripped a hole in the side of my tire and had to use the spare.

    OEM alloy nuts are Flange type but have a small area of acorn ridge to hold on the steel spare;

    If you're nuts don't have it the acorn/tapered seat they won't hold on the spare steel wheels.

    I run fj steelies in the winter, and have a separate set of lug nuts for them.

    The aftermarket lugs are tapered without a washer. According to the website where I purchased the rims, the lugs are 60* conical seat.

    Those are the exact same lug nuts I have. I was not able to confidently mount my spare using those lug nuts.

    This is what I am worried about. I'd rather know if I need different lugs before I actually need them. Which lugs did you get to work with the spare?

    In my experience with steelies to alloys, the lead in of the lug nut is always the same.

    Some shorter acorn/solid style lugnuts may bottom out before seating the rim to the hub.

    Stock steel lug nuts will not work on a lot of alloy wheels(not the point of discussion), but a lot of aftermarket lug nuts will work with steel rims. Depth of the threads and length of the studs are the main concern.
