Changed the oil and tacked on the tow hitch today. Started brain storming a mock up for the bed cage off the hitch. Hoping to have everything figured out and in order by the time I pick up the bedsides so I only have to drop the bed once and get most of this done with one pass as conveniently as possible.

Damn man, I might have to copy this idea to some degree. I'm going to be making a back bumper very soon because it's supposed to be 102 this weekend and I can't tow my jet ski until I make this bumper. I like your idea using the tow hitch directly to the frame horns. I was planning on cutting up my u-haul hitch and re-purposing the receiver into a tube structure but your way might work well too. I want to get the high clearance and not have the receiver below the tube bumper looking all weird. I want a super simple clean look on the back. I NEED MORE PICS!!!!!! lol

Yeah man. Just burn it onto the the frame rails and your good to go. I’ve already got my frame box kit sitting in the garage so I’ll be boxing the receiver into the frame fully when I drop the bed. Just waiting on Fiberwerx to call me to pick up my glass before I drop the bed.

Made some brackets for the tow hitch to bolt onto the frame in the factory bolt holes.

Ended up having to make a notch to clear the factory welds near the shackles so the plates would lay flush

Also noticed that my passenger rear shock is going to be an issue with where my exhaust currently sits. Gunna have to chop it right after the muffler and do a turn down tip to clear the shock. 6CF07F11-7381-4B11-843E-D603A9D20B07.jpg

It would’ve been cool to do a bedside exit but the ideal spot to exit doesn’t really exist with the short beds. :pout:

Anybody know what the pros and cons are in relation to mufflers having certain offset exit or straight through? Is it really just preference in whatever works best or is there any affect one way or the other be it sound, resonance, etc.

For what it’s worth I’m interested in switching my offset exit from the passenger to driver side to clear my shock. I can’t imagine switching from right to left offset is going to make much of a difference but I figured I’d put it out there and see what sticks.

    Luke,
Typically the muffler is mounted horizontal... supposed to allow the weep hole to rid of condensation.

I don't know anything about mufflers or if there's a correct orientation or preferred orientation but my 40 series Flowmaster is turned 90 degrees from how yours sits, so 6 and 12 instead of your 3-9 position. Mine has a 45ish degree cut in a bend right off the can. Dumps downward. It's been on the truck since I bought it 11 or 12 years ago. It was how it came. Never really gave it much thought except that it does stay out of the way and sounds pretty good. Thinking about flow characteristics I can't see how it could hurt to have the flow dump immediately out of the can instead of going through another 3 feet of pipe...

yeah that definitely makes sense in terms of distance traveled and flow resistance. I’m hoping I can just switch sides and clear my passenger rear shock by doing so
