I have 2006 access cab with a shell, I am looking to put a lumber rack over the shell but the only ones I can find are for a 1st gen.

Will a 1st Gen lumber rack fit a 2nd Gen truck?

No it probably wont. The 2nd gen has a wider bed and much different bed rail setup vs a 1st gen.

The problem is not whether you can mod it to fit , but how you intend to fasten it to the composite bed .

    Whatever .

OP , I provided the link above so you would be aware that you may need to do some alterations to the rack to both make it fit and to mount it .

    Good luck .
