I am mounting a Rack-It brand lumber rack with standouts for a shell on an 04 Taco. Should I just center it front to rear on the bed or be more concerned on where the front cross bar is over the front of the cab for wind noise?? I have about 3-4" of option.

I don't know about that brand, but my rack definitely gets/makes some wind noise. I'd run it as far back as reasonable next time.
