Ah, yea the estimate was just an estimate but my body shop is going with a new and oem tailgate as well. Either way my deductible was going to be the same.

While your overall point is not wrong, the logic is a bit flawed.

Theft of tailgates and catalytic converters are typically crimes of opportunity. A master thief is not scouring this site for the location of a lifted truck to go steal the cat.

I don’t like the idea of random people posting nicely fitted trucks with their plates visible on here, but true concerns to this end should be accompanied by a tin foil hat.

Well just in case anyone is scouring the Internet for my sweet tailgate, my garage is home to 38 underfed rottweilers, and I have 5 Insomniac Navy seals as roommates, and my next door neighbors are the entirety of the 501st airborne.

Here's a tip for insurance deductibles. Lowering your collision deductible raises your rates alot, but lowering your comprehensive does not raise it that much. Something like a stolen tailgate or damage to your car while it's parked is covered under comprehensive coverage. I have my comprehensive deductible set at $250 while my collision deductible is $1000. It's worth looking into if you currently have a high deductible for comprehensive.

Finally got the paint matched tailgate back from the shop— unfortunately they got the wrong reverse camera harness so I’ll be coming back once they get the right one but they’re letting me keep the tailgate now.

Rekeyed to my key so I manually locked it as soon as I got it haha. Going to be installing the @KTJO4x4 adapter to be able to lock with my key fob as well as the anti tweaker device from @christian06 for added security. I also have the coops custom Tacoma lettering hopefully coming in the next few weeks so it’ll be back to what it used to look like!

Is there a benefit with the KTJO kit versus OEM?

Not entirely sure but the oem seems to range from $150-180($130 at BAM Wholesale from a quick Google search) and I got the KTJO kit for $100 shipped so I went for it. I’m sure other people might not mind paying extra for the peace of mind of having oem though.

I paid $127 for OEM from BAM. Shipping was $52 but I also bought the TRD Pro SKID and Bed lights.

Installed the anti tweaker device and the power tailgate lock today! More peace of mind with the added security.
