For my lunch I always go sit in my truck and eat & watch youtube it's summer time here in Oregon, and I was curious if I run my truck for less then 30 mins just for AC so I can stay cool, will this effect my truck in anyway? Since it's just in Idle in Park with AC running and truck turn on?

Just running in idle uses surprisingly little gas. Numbers I’ve seen .3 to .4 gal an hour

I hope not because I do this on and off all day one or two days a week in the hot South Carolina summer.

I been doing it for a long time both winter and summer. It has to add to wear engine fuel pump etc but I don’t care! Heat and AC I do care.
Can’t say it’s done much damage or not?

Keep an eye on your temp gauge…even with an electric fan, on real hot days it might have insufficient flow across the cooling stack sitting there at idle to properly cool the engine…

Think cop cars etc. Yes you get zero MPG and the AC does jack the idle speed.

Toyota has a tsb out since 2005-2023 model years to install an electric cooling fan that bolts to the rad support. It helps to keep the a/c blowing cold in above 100 degrees at idle. I would imagine it also lowers engine temperature too. Problem is Toyota will only install it under warranty if your trucks a/c stops blowing cool air at idle . Not every tacoma is affected for some reason or other. You could always just pay out of pocket and have the dealer install the tsb fan kit for peace of mind.

It won’t hurt anything as long as the engine stays within temperature range keep an eye on temp gauge make sure it’s centered. These trucks have huge radiators and the clutch fan is pretty massive. The owners Manuel mentions nothing it terms of idling in high heat as far as I know

I do it all the time while waiting for my daughters dance class to finish. Winter its the heat, summer its the AC. Never had a issue.
