I wouldn't want one on my daily driver, let alone front and rear. Spend the money and get a quality selectable locker.

I ran them front and rear on my daily driven 1976 FJ40 for years with no issues. They are a perfectly viable option for any vechicle that they fit.

It looking like that's the only option. I can't figure out what front and rear diff. Are in there. I think 8.4 rear 7.5 front? Also what is the spline count?

I've run my Jeep with them. They can just be a little sketchy on ice. Just take it easy and your ok. Or turning into a parking stall especially when wet they will engage. The first time they did that I thought I broke something.

So I've been doing some reading on IFS and it seems that a limited slip would be a better choice for the weaker components says 4wd article. So what about the rearend? I've had Detroit lockers in Toyota's before and they are noisy and more expensive. The reason I'm searching is I got stuck the other day on an off camber and had to use Max Trac to get unstuck luckily since I had no other vehicles to help out.

8" front the rear it depends on the model.

All manuals trans, offroads, and Pro are 8.75"

    All others are 8" rear

Stock AF. My 68 Bronco and 2000 2.5RS get the mods.
I've run lunchbox lockers. Don't do it in a taco. Just... don't. And I say never in the rear of anything shy of a cheap rock-rocket and at that, go Detroit. That's not a lunchbox anyway. They're freakin miserable in anything on pavement, let alone something as genteel as a tacoma.
*addendum to rear: they can be tolerable if you have a long enough wheelbase to help the the outer wheel override smoothly. A TJ does not.

Now, my early bronco will be getting an aussie in the front, I absolutely LOVED it in the front of my TJ (with ZJ CV axles, hate if you want, it was damn smooth and plenty strong. Low and high pinion d30s, 4.56, 35s) it was the best on the beach with the rear ARB open. It handled so well. I highly recommend them for a front, solid axle and I lean toward them if you need to be able to turn at times in 4wd and don't want to hit the switch constantly.

Aussies are made in Rochester, NY, by the way. I snapped and posted this a few years ago with the caption "Pride in the places for the right reasons."

It's fatiguing responding to "dude, what'd you break?!"

"Nothing... 'bro', it's a locker; evidently you wouldn't know anything about them.":laugh:

Lunchbox lockers are great in the right situations and it never bothered me to daily drive rear automatic lockers on the street. Just learn the characteristics and drive appropriately.

The Tacoma front is the hold over 8" IFS from Gen 2 so whatever fits '05-'15 fits a third gen. There is at least the Powertrax, Aussie, and Lokka versions available.

The rear axles are also legacy except for the 8.75" used in the manuals and trucks with the factory e-locker so there are piles of options if it's an automatic. Not sure if there's one for the 8.75's now or not.

3rd gen Tacoma has 8" front clam. Depending on which model you have will depend on the rear diff. This chart will help.

Ok I watched Dirtdiggler's video on the different posi/ lockers and with that info I have no problem putting a Spartan in the rearend. Like I stated before I have had 2wd Toyota's with a Detroit locker. The only difference vs a Spartan is the Detroit comes in a carrier maybe a little stronger but I'm betting not too much. I DD my Toyota's with the Detroit for 250000 miles and never had an issue. Other than the extra noise.Even jumping them every now and then. I'm doing it!

Has anyone run an locker in just the front dif? And if so does it make noise if your not in 4 wheel drive? I'm thinking about putting one in my 08 Tacoma. It is my daily driver as well.
