I'd say Alta, in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah... but as this is a snowboarding thread, I guess Snowbird would be second best!

It really all depends on the season.

Last season say really early snowfall, with most everything open by Thanksgiving. Then El Nino took a big fat dump on us and we had the driest January and February in the longest time.

Late Feb and March saw the return of good powder dumps, but by then a lot of the slopes had sent their part-time staff back to Peru or where ever they come from. Snoqualmie had terrible operating hours and Baker and Crystal shut down earlier then normal. Any given year, you can kind of expect something to be open up until Cinco de Mayo.

Baker is operated by the Forest Service, so their funding is pretty short. That's part of the reason for the lack of grooming, and the shorter seasons.

Mt. Hood is the only place around here I know where you can ride in July. But that's because you can access the glacier from the lifts. They hold summer snowboard camps there. It's pretty awesome.

At Mt. Rainier, you can hike up to the Muir Snowfield and ride there all year round. This year, it was still complete runs all the way to Paradise into mid-August! I was there two weekends ago and I saw some guys hiking with their skis and boards on their backs. Seemed like a lot of work for some crappy sun-cupped turns to me.

Yeah, Ive seen some pics of people shredding the half pipe in t-shirts at Mt. Hood. Spring time riding is one of my favorite times to go.

Yea, yea . . Alta. I hear a lot about that place from my buddies who ski. Pretty bogus its only a "skiers mountain." Closest Ive been is where Alta and Snowbird meet on the back face.

I hear you can snowboard Alta in the early part of the season but then they band you...LAME...

If I was a billionaire...I would build a sick SNOWBOARD only resort with parks, pipes, and everything you can think of in between...that way when the skiers pull up every one can turn around and say lick the wonder cheese from under our nuts...

the owner of ALTA is also the same owner of Snowbird...and doesn't like the fact that us SNOWBOARDERS look at the terrain differently and use it to our advantage... plus he also thinks that snowboarders are just reckless and hot doggers...

but yet its not the 80s anymore...there are just as much snowboarders and skiers on the mountain at any given time...

There is a LOT of mis-information in this thread about Alta being skiers only. But I'm not getting into an argument; its not worth the drama, especially with those who have already formed opinions. If you ski, check out both Snowbird and Alta, get an Alta-Bird pass (you can access both mountains), both are pretty amazing. On some days, Alta's higher average elevation means slightly fluffier snow/lower temps.

I have NO problem with snowboarders, a lot of my best friends in the whole world are boarders, and I love hitting the slopes with them, but Alta is special in its own way, and it has NOTHING to do with it being skiers only.

    Respect, to my boarder homies!

For those of us who do not have pre-formed opinions, please enlighten us.

I get the marketing aspect of it, but eventually Alta will come to the realization that snowboarding attracts millions of youths every year, and that continued revenue will build their business. It's only a matter of time before they start building a progressive park.

Spring riding is great. I know people who won't go unless it's 40 degrees+.

I kinda like it at night when the snow is fresh from the day and my Tacoma and some Jeeps from the locals are the only ones in the parking lot. Then it's back to the bar for some shots and PBRs.
