    Hey SoCal folks -

Thinking about heading out to Lytle Creek or the surrounding areas for the first time. Planning on an overnight camp at one of the yellow post sites. My research shows there are a total of 19 yellow post sites in Lytle Creek, with 3 of them (#17, #18, #19) on what looks like a separate road that requires 4x4. I do have a lifted 4x4, but would rather keep it mild since I won't be traveling with other rigs.

Does this area tend to get crowded? Any alternatives nearby if all 19 are already taken? I'll be arriving Friday morning.

Pretty much every camping area within driving distance of LA is bound to get crowded this time of year especially with Covid and everyone wanting to get out more.

I've found personally that going further north like the Los Padres Ntl Forest area is less crowded than the San Bernardino forest. The SB forest is so accessible from so many major counties it's hard to feel like you're actually 'getting away'.

Also there was a pretty good size fire in Lytle Creek a week or so ago, should probably check before going out there

Just a heads up, There was a fire in Lytle creek a couple of weeks ago so you might want to contact the rangers in that area to make sure that it is open. From what I've heard the weekends can get a little crowded but you should be able to find a spot if you show up in the morning.

Good callout on the fire. I'm open to other suggestions. Would like to be about 2 hours from Irvine area if possible.

I just saw a group of jeeps on SoCal FB group that went to Lytle Creek / Coldwater Canyon over the weekend and they didn't have any problems accessing it. But yeah just call Ranger station in the area to double confirm.

Also if you do decide to go, let us know how it goes. A group of us tried to go last weekend to scope the area out for possible camping sites but had to reroute because of the fire.

Thomas mountain yellow posts are probably right at 2 hours for you. Try that.

Anybody have info on Coon Creek yellow post sites? Called the number listed on the Forest Service website, but nobody is answering. Just want to check if they're open.
