Got about 1 month until the next one... due to school etc

But mini 1-2 day adventures for now

 

Didn't go down Lockhart canyon? You missed out.

 

No. That woulda be fun though. Even easier though. But for out route we needed to get south to canyon lands.

 

I'm talking about the quick out and back off of Lockhart basin that takes you'll into the national park and down to the river.

 

Oh. No idk what that is. Damn, does sound cool.

 

Nice pictures of Lockhart. I love that trail. Driving through the canyon is so much fun. Once you break out of the canyon in into the open area you realize how big that basin is. If I remember correctly it took 3 or 4 hours to make it to the needles district after we made it out of the canyon.

 

Are you talking about this intersection? I was curious if it was worth the detour but decided against it.

 

Yessir. Was very much worth the time to head down there.

 

Damn. I guess I've got an excuse to go back to Moab..

 

Agreed. If we'd known that beforehand, I think we would have gone the 6 miles to check it out. Poor planning I guess.

 

I wondered why they called it "Slick Rock" when in fact it is good n stickey .... lots of inexperienced drivers engage the locker thinking it's gonna be needed on the "slick " rock , and end up with a crunched diff.
I learned a little history while there , the reason it's called slick rock is that back in the day a wagons wooden wheel had a metal band around the outside , which turned into many a disaster on the rocks.
Metal wheel - Rock = Slick , especially when wet !!
Heard a couple real crazy stories about the wagons.
One was that they would whip the horses or cattle pulling the wagon over a cliff @100' high ! They had ropes attached to the animals and wagons and lowered them down ( short cut ) I can't imagine that whole process nor the fuck ups that must have happened... But , I sure would like to be around that kind of ingenuity for a little while. Crazy shit !
