Greg go to Ham Radio Outlet, they have internet sales....or if you go to the Anaheim Store i can give you our account so you can get a better price, usually around $240-$300, radio and antenna, depending on what they have for sales and what antenna you want, specially if its a magmount (magnetic) or fixed mount (solid)

At the Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) they sell the Icom V8000 which most of us normally run for $229. Then you'll spend another $50-$60 on an antenna. I have the antenna Larsen NMO150BK.

Holy shat. I'll have to rethink this. With myself having to replace my rear shocks this weekend, I probably won't be able to afford that. I'll definitely try my best to get one before the race though.

remember get a radio that is "open" can use the frequencies we use and sometimes have to change due to overcrowded on race day, stay away from a radio that has pre-selected frequencies unless you plan on buying the interface cable and programing to be able to chage frequencies on the fly at a race....cause u being on BFG Relay and us on Yokohama does no one any good....ha ha

I think by just adding a longer antenna to your current handheld, you'll be able to hear others from further away but you won't be able to talk to them since your handheld doesn't have enough outoput watts.

I'll keep that in mind. I've never been one to like the pre-programmed channels. Doesn't give you much freedom.

Sounds good! If you don't mind sharing a few locations that would be insane! Tried to catch uP with you last time but my 5100 and rebuilt springs just won't keep up with your truck
Feel free to pm if you don't want to clog the forum. Also just shooting this for fun so I won't be trying to sell any images.

Damn! That's a nice little radio! If I can scratch up the funds before the race (which I doubt), I'll let Chris know so I don't have to borrow his. But I'm definitely going to keep this one in mind. Thanks, Monkey.

    x2...

if this race gets as crowded as i suspect it may, there is a possibility that we will jump on a frequency that may not be on a pre-programmed radio...

also, if getting another radio other than the ICOM V8000, make sure it can transmit on the race frequencies which are typically above 151.000
