Should. I unbolt and remove the tranny with the motor in place and correct the problem that way or remove both as a unit or remove the engine again with the tranny in place I did originally.

Normally I would pay someone to do this but his caronavirus b.s. caused my recent layoff. So I def cant afford to that right now.

Don't you think the grinding HAS to be the starter?

    Or does it sound 'heavier'?

Any noise while turning the balancer with a rachet?

    Clutch feels normal with foot?

Any other info. you can give us? Grinding is just a bit vague. The no start......you must have pulled a wire loose somewhere..... I guess?????

    Really kind of unrelated.

It's a heavy grind. The entire vehicle jumps forward when I turn the ignition.

I feel like I forced the transmission back to the engine and this is a cause of that.

Make it easier just pull the transmission.

When working alone throw a ratchet strap around the transmission.

Just be careful it will want to twist towards the right side as it comes out of the clutch.

I am guessing getting any help is not going to happen.

    Best of luck.

Thanks, I appreciate any tips I can get, when I reinstall it all again. Is it suppose to slide together? Or what exactly

This, when working alone. Ratchet straps are your friends~

This is what I do for install-
Get a good pair of ratching straps & tie/hook up on frame rails. I use a floor jack to bring up the tranny & ratchet up a wee bit more to level..... And slide in :drumroll:

The first time I swapped an auto transmission into my truck I had to removed it TWICE bc my dumbass did not get the torque converter seated properly. I had some nasty grinding and was getting pretty discouraged. 3rd time was a charm and all has been well for a year now. I don’t know much about the manual transmissions, but could this be the issue here?

edit: I know next to nothing about manual transmission outside of how to drive one. That in and of itself is a waning skill amongst my generation.

it might just not be releasing enough with the new clutch disc if car is lurching forward.
Keep the trans in neutral and try it again. if its working in neutral and you can't get into gear then re-bleed and adjust the clutch pedal rod length.

Definitely try to start in neutral to see if this is a clutch prob. or am adjustment.

Good luck. While using bolts to pull it together the last bit on the dowels is (I don't want to say necessary) any further than that means something is not quite right.

you sure you didn't install the clutch disc backwards? That would make it grind and lurch.

Having just done a clutch, this seems reasonable to check. Easy to install wrong way.

The clutch disk had writing on one side saying "fan side". So that side is out towards the front. And I accidentally had it in gear when I I stalled the transmission. I think that caused a problem. I tried starting in neutral with the same luck.

Is the transmission supposed to just slide in without hesitation?

fan side? That's strange. I don't think that means the engine fan.
