    Shower thought time.

It's been explained in detail on here about how the Toyota Auto LSD works, but TL;DR it electronically applies braking force to the wheel that is slipping, creating a limited slip effect.

So, would it theoretically be possible to double down on the aggressiveness of said software to turn an Auto LSD into an Auto Locker? Basically it would apply braking force if it detected any difference in rotational speed at all, so the open diff would be electronically "locked."

Obviously this wouldn't be a DIY project & would take a good bit of resources to develop such a software. I could see the advantage in it though, as you could even make it auto-disengage above a certain vehicle speed, and I'm thinking it's probably way cheaper than a locking diff.

Or would it just suck compared to a real locker?

no, an auto locker and auto LSD are two separate things. If you tried to combine them then the wheel with the slipping would just have the brakes mashed on and wouldn't move at all.
