guess mines usa then...no issues to report

I pulled into a grocery store and a lady noticed my front bumper was a bit misaligned.

"guess they don't make them like they used to" she was in a second gen...went on to complain to me about some trim piece...I let her say her peace and followed with,
"Ma'am...my bumper is slightly misaligned because I hit a street sign pole at 20mph...I'm impressed I didn't need to get a new one"

*sigh...ok so my DUMBass was on a road that curved into another, had a yield sign between the two at one point, I was in to big of a rush and I was looking for oncoming traffic and didn't realize I drifted over, like way over...point being...truck took it like a champ on the left side...ran totally over that thing. But aside from the corner of the bumper not aligning perfectly (and a minor grill crack) you wouldn't know. The sign...well they had to replace it. But shhhhhh...

I doubt these vehicles with drive train issues whether built in texas or mexico would matter in this....aren't those components built at plants elsewhere that would be responsible? I thought i'd be more on the quality of the build for the rest of truck.

Pretty much, it is just assembly. The Big 3 do it the same way.

Since I live 10 miles north of Tijuana and use my truck south of the border regularly it should come as no surprise that I’m happy with my Mexican Taco!68DDC358-9337-4CBE-BF79-7E2FF5DA8C23.jpg

I was talking to my uncle, he worked for GM as an engineer. I asked him about mexico vz the US. He said the chevys made in the US were about 15 to 20% inspected after a vehid6was completed. But when they started building some vehicles in Mexico, they were all 100% inspected. So he said if that how it is w toyota, it may be a better situation.

And mine is scheduled to be built next Tues, so Tacoma built in Mexico on taco Tuesday. Meant to be.

Toyotas own internal QC report shows the Mex plant is better. I'd still rather have a Texas rig. Also these are assembly plants. I dont think they build the engines or transmissions. I know the 2.7 is made in Japan, not sure about the trans.

The way you are describing that sounds like the opposite of Toyota Lean Manufacturing. They perfect the assembly process so they don't have to waste time doing 100% inspections. If they do find an odd fault at final QC then they could go backwards and reverse inspect to make sure the fault is not widespread.

Well, I have no idea about Toyota Lean Manufacturing, I was describing GM.

I don't care how it goes together honestly, as long as it works perfectly and comes to me as ordered.

From what I understand, all MT's are built in Texas.

That was true but now that Tacoma production is leaving TX they started shifting MT to the other 2 plants in Mexico.

They’ve been makin’ tacos in Mexico for 18 years. If there was a quality control issue there, Toyota would have caught it long before now. They still have the reputation for being the most reliable trucks in the world.

    Work in progress...
Hecho en Mexico. The bed was a little crooked when I got it, with 15,000 miles on it. Just loosened the 6 bolts and lined it up and retightened. Rear bumper, in the attic now, was a little mis aligned. My wife just bought a $50, 000 Ford and I had to, well figured I might as well, align the hood. Nothing to lose sleep over I guess

While it's far too early for a sound judgment, so far so good with my 2020 Mexican Taco.

Some years back, a Japanese diplomat created a furor by commenting that the USA could never compete with the Japanese because Americans work a 3-day week. Spend Friday preparing for the weekend & get through Monday recovering from the weekend.

Why did the Mexican throw his wife out the window?
    Because he wanted Tequila.
    (no racist)
