Lol but what dye did you use!? I used some on my 2nd gens carpet and it's alright. I'm wondering if there's something that doesn't rub off. :)

Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric Dye, flat black.

I wouldn't put it in high traffic areas like floor carpet. It's bound to wear off quickly. Plus it makes the fabric stiff.

That's what I used - same results, but worth it for trashed upholstery and carpet for sure.

I'm following your path in both the Forester seats as well as blacking out all the brown/tan.

Have you deciphered any of the wiring to power the seat motors or heating elements that you're willing to share?

The power is easy. Just two wires. One power and one ground.

The heating element is trickier. I ended up just going to a pick’n’pull and getting the wiring harness and switches out of a compatible Forester.

I can’t speak to the hook up as I haven’t done it yet.

I pulled the majority of the harness and the heater buttons when I snagged the seats, but I haven't started trying to interpret the contacts yet and figured I'd see if you had. I'll let you know if I get anywhere.

Just installed the Odyssey sprayers. Great upgrade. I love how you can adjust them left/right and up/down. They're perfectly dialed in on my windshield now and the dual fan sprays cover the entire windshield. They definitely do not have the same velocity as the OEM ones so I'll be interested to see how they perform in wintry/mountain highway conditions.

Things of note that might help:

The barbs are positioned at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions. Take a flat head screw driver and gently pry one of the barbs back to slip the nozzle through the hood. If your OEM ones are anything like mine, they'll disintegrate into pixie dust as soon as you touch them.

I also had to use a little bit of heat (bic lighter) to get the passenger side supply hose off the OEM nozzle port. My hoses definitely show a lot of age. Be careful. Lastly I had to use a pick tool to get the old port out of the hose after the nozzle grenaded.

The Odyssey nozzles come with a gasket that sits between your hood and the nozzle. No need to reuse the OEM ones. However the OEM ones would have fit nicely. So check to see if whatever nozzles you buy comes with the gaskets. If not be sure to save and reuse the OEM ones.

They definitely have a significantly higher profile than OEM but a smaller base so it will show a funky paint border:

    OEM in the background

    OEM in the foreground

But it's okay, you do not see the nozzles when you are in the driving position:

Comparison of driver's side Odyssey to passenger's side OEM spray pattern. This was before I adjusted the driver's side. Huge difference:

Here is with both Odyssey nozzles on and adjusted:

    Stuff. Also things.
    I love mine so far.

Now if I can just find blades that don’t suck after a thousand miles or so...

Good luck. Blades don't last long in CO. It's why I buy cheap ones.

The only issue I foresee with these Odyssey nozzles is they leave a lot of fluid on the hood. So eventually I'll get that oxidized spray pattern in my paint that you always see on vehicles. But my paint is shot anyway so....

    Love first gens.

However I’ve owned the 98 for 19 years and personally put 210,000 miles on it. I feel like I’m being unfaithful driving the 04 now :(

That’s what I’m deliberating right now:

    1. Keep it and pass it on to my daughter.
    2. Sell it and help fund projects for my 04
    3. Keep it as a parts truck for a DCLB project ala @TMFF.

Not a bad idea to keep it if she decides to drive it ! I know if my dad had an old '98 I'd for sure wanna follow the footsteps and keep it going ! Good luck with it !

She’s the one that keeps enabling my sentimentality, “you can’t sell Red Truck! We’ve had so many adventures in it.”

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
how well does that paint hold up in the interior? my tundra needs a new interior color and black seems to be what my mind wants.
