Vinyl dye for the entire center console? And I'm guessing prep is just clean well and then spray the dye? IIRC, you said the dye was by DupliColor and comes in either flat or gloss?

I heard that transmission knob adds some great low end power. So :jellydance:

Thanks for answering all of my questions... Your truck looks great btw!

I did. And don't get me wrong it's holding up fine, just two minor scratches.

But if I were to do it again, I'd do the vinyl dye on the armrest piece only and then use the Rustoleum Ultra Painter's Touch primer and paint on the plastic pieces. The latter is made for plastic and if given a few days to cure, is much better at adhering to plastic than the dye.

I noticed right off the bat that the dye would probably not be too durable on the plastic. On the vinyl? Bomber as shit. You'll tear the vinyl before you scratch the dye off.

And after seeing how perfectly the Rustoleum Ultra Painter's Touch flat black matched the Duplicolor flat black dye (on my valence and bumper inserts) - I would definitely go this route if I were to do it over again for the console.

Correct. Duplicolor makes large prep wipes. I'm sure you can find a cheaper alternative out there, but for $1.50 I wasn't complaining. It essentially cleans the pieces of grease, oil, dirt, etc and makes it pristine.

I suggest wearing latex gloves or something when using the wipe and dyeing because the wipe is harsh as shit on your skin and you don't want to get your finger oils on the pieces when you're dyeing it.

Correct. For me the gloss is a tad too shiny.... I would probably go flat black the next time.

But that's entirely up to your own preferences.

    Oh and RMAN,

    check out post #17

If you're going to paint it, take the entire bitch apart... I mean fully disassemble it. It'll make the paint job so much nicer looking. I was only going to half ass the disassembly, out of pure laziness, until I realized how much nicer of a job I could do if I take it all apart.

You'll also get an idea of the sheen in that post.

Thats a purty truck you got there. I like how you have a front end swap on the to-do list. I like that if have the original Tacoma front end.

I also have two bumper mods. Three If you count the sledgehammer mod.[IMG]

Before I joined TW the swap seemed like a pipe dream.

I've always hated the 98-00 front ends and always loved the 95-97.

After joining TW the mod seems obtainable.

    lol... I don't wanna know.

    Do I?

Yeah, I was thinking you just took a sledghammer to your bumper and added another...

    ...to balance it out

Lol. Why would anyone do that? Now my bumper is just wrinkly. The only way I could get it smooth would be heating it probably. But wouldn't that make me have a rainbow bumper mod?:D

LOL! I am sorry for the confusion. I thought heating up chrome to high temps made it change colors.

This is the last time I restore them.

New headlights will be the catalyst to my front end swap.

I like your headlights (and your whole truck)
