Ok, I will look into my options, I have a KN airfilter so don't need the whole air cleaner box,
Just the tube section that will hold the newer sensor that will hopefully fit in the KN air filter end, that's not restrictive like the original one

I figured it out, all I need is to get the plactic tube section that KN makes for the 2000 model
and replace it with my 1997 version and then just add the sensor on top and pin the wires correctly.

Now no more restrictive tube section and a 60.00 MAF sensor

God I didnt know you had an intake! I had the k&n like yours but with the newer style tube I would have gave it to you, if I still had it, the tube you want has a bit of a goofy way to mount my style sensor for 99+ it uses a foam washer around the maf sensor. I believed this to be a flaw. I had to add a gasket from k&n to my maf sensor kinda getto! The AFE tube might have a better way to mount the maf without modification and still work. Merry Christmas

I had one of those, chopped it down to reinstall a factory air box and threw it away. Could have used it now.

Got everything installed today and drove to work. (40 miles one way through rolling hills.)
I installed 3" tubing from the air box to the throttle body. (Throttle body is 2.75")
Drilled aluminum piece for methanol injection fitting.
I had to swap three wires, started without a problem before change, but would not accelerate.
My old air box had the deck plate mod, this one does not, I plan to do that this week and see if it improves anything.
With my old air box and deck plate mod my average WOT boost was 7 pounds, sometimes 8 pounds but not very often.
With the new air box and MAF and NO deck plate mod I could get 8 pounds easily at WOT coming to work today.

    Pros:
1-Idles really nice, not that it was bad before, just seems smoother.
2-Better throttle response, seems smoother all the way up to WOT.
3-AFR is just a hair more than before, bounces around 14.5 mostly, before was 14.7
    4-WOT AFR is 11.2, before was 11.5

    Cons:
I went with a cheap aftermarket air box, it is definitely thinner and cheaper. It works fine, but I will be on the lookout for a factory one.

Glad to hear, I guess I will be on the look out for changing my setup to the newer style, thanks
How is your ping issues at the 2500 rpm spot.
I went to a #2 nozzel from a #1 nozzel and my boost went from 9.25 to a little over 10

I went from a #3 to a #2 because I felt I was using to much fluid. But I do not get any ping while in boost. The methanol helps to keep my engine temps down while in boost and I can see them rise when I run out.
I still have the pings though it seems not quite as bad as it was, I'm still waiting on my URD controller, I hope it helps get rid of the preboost pings.

I have the old style MAF on my truck, can it be cleaned by just spraying cleaner into the open end where I can see the wires? I just replaced plugs and wires last week but when I removed the MAF, I was expecting the new style and wasn't sure what to do, didn't want to screw anything up.

Thanks, that's what i thought but wanted to make sure. I have the MAF cleaner as well as the throttle body cleaner and will probably do both today.

Ok throttle body is best if you take it off so you can get the back side and scrub it down good,

My 1998 plug has different colored wires, do you know which ones I have to swap? I did the swap, changed the wires I thought were correct, it works, but now my gas mileage is down by 5MPG.

    My current plug swap.

You have youre wires the same as mine. I think you should stay with the new maf, as for 5mpg drop it is cold and creating lots of h2o in our tanks, star enzyme gas treatment gets her done for me give it a try.

I'm running the TT Supra MAF so my wire placement is different. Between the two of you, looks like you have the correct placement. The 5mpg drop seems drastic.
