    Yes you have to change 4 of the 5 wires. Look here or on TTORA. MAF upgrade or conversion. The onboard computer will adjust. If everything else is ok it will run just fine.

    Ok, so My wire colors look different than what I have found for other OEM wire pin setup.
    Anyone know how I pin my wires going from 1997 to the 2001 MAF sensor?
    Apparently the wires are NOT all the same colors from 1996-1998
    The two wires on the right are the same color with the same color strip on mine.

    the bottom is a photo of someone else’s conversion but the wires are different colors than mine.

    I’m guessing with my color it would go like this using the 2002 photo below as reference.
    Pin1 brown black strip
    Pin2 yellow with green strip
    Pin3 white with red strip that is in slot 4 from the original pin out
    Pin4 Brown with white strip
    Pin5 white with red, this one does not get moved

    After you get the Volvo maf tube in try to let the word out about it so people are not cutting up their Toyotas. They run nice on this conversion and it is as good or better than factory. When you buy used ones on eBay the Volvo maf comes with the tube and they are the same denso mafs as Toyota.

    Hmmm I'm getting confused - so you need the tube from a volvo and a maf from a volvo and re-pin your male connector from your wiring harness or cut it off and solder on a new male connector from your harness to plug into the volvo maf?

    No. The old restrictive maf is unbolted and removed. The Volvo tube is bolted in and the female connector is repinned. No cutting or splicing takes place. If you are in Sac I can hel you with it.

    Got it. Thanks man I appreciate it. I'm basically in LA, and luckily wiring guitars got me pretty comfortable with soldering point to point stuff. All these connectors are kind of the next step in my understanding of how to wire cars. Thanks again, I'm sure I'll see how to take the connector apart once I look into it on my own truck or I'll ask back here lol!

    There are small tabs on top of the connector. Gently pry them up and then gently pull on wires, they will slide out.

    Looking at the tab, you can see a small plastic tab above each wire connector that can be gently pried up to release the connector.
