I cleaned my MAF sensor in my '08 Tacoma with CRC MAF Cleaner. I removed it and sprayed it 10-12 times as recommended. I am not sure what the sensor is supposed to look like. After cleaning, the thin metal looks clean, but there is still a black "ball" at the bottom. Is that supposed to be there, or should that come off as well. I am not a mechanic, but I am trying to learn how to do minor work on my Tacoma. Any help will be appreciated.

This is not my MAF sensor, but you can see the black "ball" on the tip of the wires on this pic. What is that for? Does that just complete the circuit?

Don't try to take the black ball off it's supposed to be there. You did it right, just spray and let air dry. Never try to wipe it or touch it with anything but the spray cleaner. You should also go back and clean the throttle body too.

Thanks for info. I cleaned the throttle body about a month ago. That was dirty. I assume it gets dirty because of the after market air filter that requires oiling?

spray down the tunnel to the two tiny wires and get them sparkling,
just do not touch the wires with anything solid

the outer brown bulb is FIA or IAT temp sensor, used to verify
the results generated by the two inner wires. the brown stuff
is supposed to be there, but you can spray off any sludge that
might build up on it...but the important part to clean are the tiny wires
inside and they should shine silvery with zero chunks of debris
