    Thanks for that detailed response.

    Baton ... buying now.
Flashlight ... the Sofirn SP36 looks interesting at 8000 lumens, but that is their claim and I do not know for sure.
Maglite ... I have it, had it for decades and I dislike throwing something with some value in the trash. I use it rarely but keep it in the truck anyway.

Seems every useful post with a recommendation for items just makes things more confusing ... :notsure:

I was the same way about getting rid of my MagLite too. It was a nice one. 3 D-Cells, LED Bulb (one of the early ones), I had it professionally engraved with my name and some other details so it wouldn't get stolen.

But then one day I stepped into the dark garage and compared it to the 4 for $20 Costco Blister Pack lights and they absolutely trashed the MagLite. It was embarrassing. Way too little utility left in that flashlight.
I stripped the Mag of electronics and tossed the aluminum hull in the recycle bin. AMF! You either perform or you are gone around here.

No money, all went to truck...
Baton flashlights are a thing. Not sure of their durability but the premise is interesting.

I used a piece of aluminum flat stock and mounted it to the threaded holes in my Seatjackers, and then bolted my 3D maglite clips to that.

I am comparing/contrasting smaller "tactical" and/or EDC flashlights now. Some have mini-OSs that allow selection of lighting modes. Streamlight Wedge is small enough for a pocket, but may be too simple and is limited to 500 lumens. I do not plan to spend hundreds for 5 specific-use lights ...

My mag light sits beside the drivers seat nest to the door. I put it in an old black sock so it's not obvious. Doesn't move around at all, handy and easy to grab, no need for clips drilled into seat.

Just like a police baton, that's a single defensive use tool.
Once you start wailing on someone with a baton, It's never going to fully close again. And that flashlight is going to have a permanent curve in it like your pickle.

I used to have one. It had a taser on the end that would put you in the dirt for about 10 seconds while you did a hard reset
it also had leads down the side that would light someone if they tried to grab it and take it away from you. it pretty much just got used for party tricks on the driveway, someone was always like, oh i can take it.....

No joke. I've got a weapon light on my pistol that puts the MagLite out of business.

It's more of a self defense thing, but I did convert it to LED so its much better than the standard maglite. i've got a few 18650 rechargeable flashlights i keep in my truck too.
