That's going to happen no matter where it's mounted if it's in the cab unless it's secured behind the seat and the seat is far enough back that it can't sneak out.

down by the floorboard doesnt create that in a side or front/rear collision

Agreed that the light will become a projectile in a collision wherever its mounted.....but why put it so close to your noggin to start with? I always keep stuff like that mounted low, and ideally in the rear with the seat back between me and it. Just a thought.

True story....I got in a wreck many years ago where the jack that was firmly mounted in the trunk of my CRX was ejected (front end collision) and slammed through the plastic wall of the hidden cubby and punched a hole in in the front side of the cubby. The metal of the car stopped the forward momentum mere inches from where my elbow was. Speed was only about 30 at the time of the collision.

True Story: I was sitting still, got rear-ended while talking on the phone, when the dust settled, my phone was in a bucket right behind my seat with the guy still talking on the other end... I was shaken up and wondered why I was hearing voices, then remembered I had been talking on the phone... LOL

Even if it stayed in the mount you'd still probably bang your head on it in a significant crash. Mine's in the glovebox. The mini mag LED is in the console. The mini is much brighter anyway. If the big maglite comes out, it's because I have to get out and fix something in the dark and I feel better with a club in my hand.

well if the mount was on the ceiling, it would probably be around where the dome light is
