I’ve always liked Magnaflow mufflers. They have a straight-through design (no baffles and instead the muffler is packed with fiberglass/sound damping materials around the tube). I installed one on my 1st Gen and loved the sound. Magnaflow sells the mufflers in different lengths. Shorter = louder. Longer = less noise. On my 1st Gen I believe I installed a 4X9x18. It had a nice throaty sound at full throttle but wasn’t obnoxious while cruising. My 3rd Gen TRD Pro came stock with a TRD exhaust. It’s not as loud as the 18” Magnaflow but still sounds good. Regardless, Magnaflows are great and their straight-through design provides you with the least restrictive exhaust flow.

TRD exhaust for the win, one piece design, nice smooth deep sound, cool TRD tip, no drone and looks cool too. A 50 series Flowmaster welded in comes in 2nd for me. My Son's runs this on his Tacoma with a TRD copy exhaust tip, and sounds great, no drone and has a deeper tone than the TRD. I heard a Gibson muffler that sounded flipping awesome, however I don't know the model number of the muffler. My friend had it on his Tacoma a few years back before he got his Pro. That sounded so smooth and deep sounding, I loved that sound and I will try and find out. It had some drone to it but not too bad.

If I was going to do any kind of exhaust mod on a V6, it would start with header and then dump the exhaust before the rear dif. But first, I'd rather just supercharge it. Exhaust on a v6 IN MY OPINION - not to offend anyone here - just isn't right. At least with the dumped exhaust it doesn't sound like someone who wishes they had a v8 (even though we all do wish they would come out with a v8 tacoma already)

Magnaflow or flowmaster systems sound nice on v8 engines, but imo on anything less they make the truck sound like chit.
