The Flowmaster dyno test is day after tomorrow. :)
I'll also keep you posted on what happens about the MAF calibrator.

And you will have to keep waiting probably cause it takes forever. It took him like a week to answer one email, sent him another right after and still waiting for a response. Probably be easier to call him.

So tooter you've convinced me to go back to my one true love and ditch my Aero Turbine muffler for another Flowmaster. :D Just not happy at all with the way this Aero Turbine is sounding.

Are you running the 50 series, or the super 50? I ran 40 series on 2 previous trucks (not Tacos), but I'm not 21 anymore and value a moderately quiet truck cab these days. :p

I'm running the 50 Series Delta Flow because it's a three chamber muffler with the most Helmholtz resonators (2) and the most delta flow plates (3). It's still pretty loud, but the sound is really smooth and mellow.

Here's a brief YouTube of what it sounds like inside the cab with one window open and driving normally. :)

Dang man this thread just gets more interesting.
Been looking forward to the Flowmaster Dyno Friday.
Really wanting that header because of the results I've seen on your Dyno's but all this MAF Cal A/F thing has got me a scratchin my noggin ?
I'm gonna let you do the testing and leg work first ,, :)
I trust your opinion,,,, and the dyno results.
Really appreciate your post and info Greg,,

    Thanks!

I have a 40 series with 2/4 cats and dumped before the axle,
I love the sound but if you want sound and not much in the can, 40 may be too much

Here is the 4x4 one for those wanting to see the difference in the collector location

The crossover pipe for driver side to the collector is double walled, so the actual diameter it the size of the pipe entering the collector.
Without supporting mods, it seems that the powerband shifted into the higher rpm range with a little loss down low in torque. This is probably due to less backpressure from the cat delete. I donn't have enough mods to warrant a dyno run, but that will change in the near future.

First off, lets be clear that my knowledge on tuning the Cali is based on some research, not experience, so take what I have to say for what it's worth. The MAF Cali will work on the 4 cyl assuming it has a MAF, which it does. Only thing I don't know is if the ECU is the same as the 4.0, then the instructions you get from URD are good. If the ECU is not the same, then you need a 4cyl ECU pin out to know which wires to tap/splice into.

As far as the dyno graph and tuning. My opinion is that it may be a reasonable start, but remember the dyno graph is a full throttle run. The MAF Cali map is a 2d graph with rpm and load as the axis', as I recall. So you could use the dyno graph, but that only tells you the 100% load cells, not the rest. Open loop can happen at much less than 100% load depending on the conditions.

How's that for more ambiguity??

As for Gadget, calling seems to work much better then email, unless the email is about a sale. Not dinging him, as that's where your priorities need to be if you are time constrained. He's full of knowledge, but from what I've seen/read, hard to get to sometimes.

Jeez man, the 50 series on your 4 banger sounds beefier than the stupid Aero Turbine does on my 4.0! Of course I just watched it again and realized you're shifting at 2000 to 2500 RPM grandma. LOL! That's where the Aero sounds best on my truck too.

Any particular reason you went with an offset outlet pipe instead of doing the center/center muffler?

Ah, you said something really interesting...
The driver side runner is double walled. So the flattening isn't actually the inner pipe being obstructed, but is the outer heat shield! :)

The stock pipe being smaller in diameter keeps the exhaust gas velocity up and is more for low end torque than for top end performance. The URD runners are longer because the junction is further away from the engine. That should help the low end even though each runner is larger in diameter.

Technically, the Y pipe is still a part of the header because it's upstream from the final collector. Sort of a really long tube tri-Y. ;)

I personally believe that cats are flow neutral rather than being an obstruction. They're way larger in diameter to allow the exhaust gases to be exposed to as much catalyst surface area as possible. And the hundreds of individual passageways are all perfectly straight through. I should think that they would actually cause less turbulence.

(by the way, I think all this exhaust flow stuff is really neato... :) )

Yeah, my Taco is a work truck, and I'm an economy driver. ;)

The header and spacer both help the engine to easily be short shifted at 2,000 rpms with no strain or lugging, because it pulls so good at low rpms. That's how I can still average 23 mpg with a fully loaded truck, crawling around in first gear, and no freeway driving.
