There's no "right" way to do it and it requires some common sense. But for me it simplifies things sometimes when the truck isn't super dirty but I still wanna wash it.

Better yet (if you have a power washer and cannon), quick foaming with a cannon, power or quick hose rinse, then rinseless wash solution. That could easily use under 10 gallons of water if you live in an area with restrictions.

My go to rinseless is ech20 from carpro mixed with distilled water. Sometimes I'll add an oz of reload into my spray bottle and damn does that solution pack a punch. I'll actually be doing it Friday. I just did a time consuming foam cannon soak and rinse, then 2 bucket wash, followed by detail of plastics with waxaddict and finally the tires with optimum tire coating. But it rained once when I was at work and had been very windy and the pollen is flying all over lately. I should be able to to the ech20/reload wash in 15 minutes or so and be back to looking perfect and even have a light coat of sealant all in one step. Its so nice for between washes.

I didn't watch the video (because he's unbearable) but hard water, bugs, bird shit all have the potential to etch into the clear coat. If there is no kind of paint protection they can become a bitch to remove even with harsh chemicals if left unchecked and may not remove at all short of a polishing. Obviously this is with cases of excessive hard water. Filtered water reduces the ppm very little to remove the hardness, water softener would be better and DI filter removing it entirely. But DI resin is very expensive and the harder the water the quicker those resin beads will need to be replaced.

Rinseless wash solution is pretty good at neutralizing the hard water which is also why it's used as a drying aid or is a component of a spray wax type product. The carwash uses a spray wax solution that helps reduce spotting. So even if you never rinseless washed, having some on hand to mix as a detail spray would be good to have on hand. If you get caught with the sun drying while washing as shot of that and they should wipe right off. Also can be used as a clay lubricant and cleans glass as well as a dedicated glass cleaner.

Agreed. Rinseless is awesome on glass and mixed at detail spray ratio. It's just such a versatile product.

I've never understood using distilled water for rinseless when you're just wiping it off right away. And even if it dries slightly, you're still just a couple minutes behind it with a wet/damp drying towel. Why do you use it?

You're probably right it's not needed. But I use it for my hydro2 mix and it's cheap. Makes me happy

He has decent content at times but from his rambling, lack of editing and weird need to shit stir I gave up on watching anything by him. Notice he's come out with his own line of towels and products as if there weren't enough detailing products out there.

I think that is my issue with him. Throwing other brands under the bus and then advertising his own. He had a complete BS post Adam’s Tire and Rubber Cleaner. I use the product regularly and knew he was lying based upon my experience.
