Do you think we can DIY on the install?
Without needing to take it into a shop.

Influencers are not typically lauded for their creative thinking. They are influencers because they follow trends. They rarely are the source of anything original.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the warranty eligibility. According to magnuson’s warranty terms, it has to be installed by a dealer, certified magnuson installer, or a shop with a ASE certified tech. Your truck also needs to have less than 36k miles and be less than 3 years old from the in service date.

I’m installing myself, hopefully next weekend. My charger ETA is Wednesday....:D

I clicked thru this thinking i'd see some street pulls on YouTube like when the supercharger for the Tundra came out.

I guess the solution is get a Tundra or a 4.0 Tacoma

I was actually just asking about self-installation.
For warranty, I don't trust my stealership, and Magnuson installer no where nearby. Local ASE mech, maybe, but a lot of sketchy "mechanic" popping up since this pandemic....

I just like to try to DIY as much as I can, learning experience also, be it expensive. Since everything is on the top, it doesn't seem all too difficult.
Like anything is possible, just also didn't want my engine disassembled for months cause I overestimated myself...

I think you’d be able to do it. No injectors or anything. Seems easy IMO.

oh ok my bad. Yeah, diy definitely doable. Install should be fairly straight forward.

Does anyone know of any shops in the Portland area that can install this?

I was talking to Wilsonville Toyota, an authorized Magnuson dealer, and they were working on getting one for me in mid October. That is until I got an email from the Parts Manager:

that’s a lot of rules for $7000. Guess that rules me out. I’m at 51k miles. Funny, how it takes them 4 years to come up with this and pretty much limits it to garage queens and new trucks. Time to look at other options for me

it feels like, “hey we’re gonna charge to $7k for this supercharger, but don’t install it or the warranty is void”

It's quite common for a lot of that for big aftermarket upgrades that provide that kind of warranty. It allows some vetting of who and what vehicle so they aren't stuck warranting something done by someone that can barely turn a wrench or a vehicle that hasn't been upkept well or may have some underlying issues.

never had to deal with it before. Haha!! I was throwing new whipples on cobras when they had 80k miles on them. Never had an issue with them or the car and my warranty was never in question. Live and learn I guess. Still disappointing.

Edit: yeah, just checked. As long as the supercharger is returned and you didn’t screw it up they will honor the warranty. You don’t need to have it professionally installed and there isn’t a mileage limit

If you're worried about a warranty and bolting on $7k in forced induction speed parts you're doing it wrong. At this point no one really knows what the this will do to these engines in the long term. Seeing the few rare posts about burnt valves/trashed heads on stock engines is cause for concern.

It's also when they were boosting them to no end and blowing shit up with stock engines then expecting them to pay. I remember those days. I also don't remember whipple offering a complete powertrain warranty down to the rear end.
