Original announcement post on the YW thread updated to include list of testers, our gratitude to them, and ensure the community is aware of our appreciation for the support for this project.

Been lurking and thinking of buying the SC. A little confused on a few points:

The 90mm pulley, that increases both boost and the noise level of the whine?

Does the 90mm pulley require any other mods to keep from overheating?

How much will the 90mm tune cost?

Last question.. is it worth it??

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
The 90mm pully is what comes from Magnuson. I believe you are thinking of either the 87mm or 84mm pullies. Both will increase boost, the 87mm will get you a max of 8PSI. Though from what others have said it doesn't look like it is safe to run the 84mm pully. The SC is rather quiet and neither pully will, as far as I know, increase the whine. The 87mm pully costs about $100.

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels

What he said...but if want to increase wine you have to change out the drive gears on the back of the main unit with the straight cut gears available from Magnuson. They aren't that cheap.

One of our testers actually mentioned not hearing the whine before the YW tune and then it being noticeable. Lol :notsure:

You can still hear it, it's just very faint. It you keep the windows up, turn off ac and all audio you can hear it. But you also have to really get on it.

I mean, there's something to be said for subtlety. That's one of the things I liked so much about my twin turbos, how unobtrusive they were when daily driving.

That's fair, I def enjoy the noise. I don't "advertise" that my truck is supercharged but it's nice to hear when I really get on it, and would be better if the noise was more apparent IMO. My first gen is turbo'd and even though it's hard to hide considering how I've got the exhaust setup, it still surprises people. Lol

You can take the sound tube from a current or previous gen Ford Mustang and modify it to pipe in sound from the Tacoma airbox into the cabin. It increases the whine about 25-50% but it’s still VERY quiet.

I've thought about that myself. Some company has a kit I believe, but it would be very easy to make one yourself. But then the vehicles around still can't hear it. So what's the point, lmao!

The company that sells a kit is Foster SC mods. I highly recommend to NOT spend the money on that kit. It does indeed make it louder, but it sounds like a toddler blowing a darn Kazoo in your ear. It also makes the standard airflow noises even at idle very loud in the cabin. I removed mine after less than 5 minutes because it sounded so awful.

The mustang sound tube sounds realistic and is adequately muffled to hide everything but the whine.

Wow...very impressive gains. Are AFR's available for those runs? What gearing does the truck have?

That’s disappointing on the sound, I had the trd blower on my 2012 Tacoma and that thing was loud, but in a good way!

Just got mine installed by a local shop after a two year wait.

First impressions - its lively. Its as big of a change as the 4.88 gears I had installed, and big brakes, which both transformed the truck to me. Massive improvements. With the supercharger, the truck pulls pretty hard for what it is (you know, a truck). Drivability has been mostly seamless. If you didn't tell people they wouldn't know it is there. Whine come in at higher RPM and boost level which is cool. Its just the right amount of loud for me. I've had a few shift hiccups that is more related to the 4.88 gears than the charger, but all less annoying than the truck was stop, or even pretty maggy. The hesitation (slow shifting) between shifts my truck was experiencing at full beans from a slow rolling stop appears to be gone, and I was told the speed limited was adjusted back to factory limits (this issue was another by product of swapping to 4.88 gears that the calibration seems to have rectified).

Edit: I tried the ECT button off a stop light. It kind of hauled the mail after doing a mini burnout - I was surprise, just stomping on the pedal. The 4.88 shifting pause is still there but it’s not as prominent. ECT shift program def helps. button.

Off the light, more torque, but as others have said - the charger doesn't fundamentally change the characteristics of the motor - still a high revving engine for a truck. That said it can pull up hills without downshifting, which it could not do before the charger on the same roads. It doesn't feel like it struggles anywhere now. Just push pedal and go.

Mileage for me is about the same. Maybe -1mpg around town (stop and go) and maybe even +1mpg on the highway. There's a chance I'll be towing my trailer in a week - interested to see how it does. on all fronts.

Value (to me): This is difficult. Ultimately I enjoy the truck more. Its quick but its not the mindblowing boost that many might expect when spending this amount of money. That said, for my needs, there really was no other way to go. I love the truck as a platform, and its now the truck I would have loved to buy off of the showroom. I would still like more comfortable seats (what can I say - I have abnormally long femurs) and a bigger tank to do more distance between stops vs. a roadside fill out of fuel jugs (which I'm exploring but vacillating on). If I wasn't towing, I would have been happy with just gears - but my trailer and weight pulled is almost going to double in size. Obviously I didn't experience the supercharger with stock gears, but I'm sure its a huge improvement as well. I would do it again, but I basically now have near raptor money in a tacoma. Its just too bad I can't fit a raptor in my driveway (or on the street for that matter). For my needs, my SuperTaco is damn near perfect now.

My sentiments exactly. 4.88's, big brakes, then Maggy. I put in Scheel Mann seats, so its comfortable to drive now, too!

    m,
Awesome! What did you do about the airbag stuff? Recaro makes an airbag seat I'd be happy to spring for. I'm so concerned about my lady or my son riding in the passenger seat - I want all the bags working.
