interested in the towing thoughts. please do update us on this. ??? I have an additional transmission cooler (Tow Package and additional) which is mounted passenger side front on the radiator = do you think there will be any interference with Magnuson Mod ?

Beautiful write up! Hope the dyno shows a nice improvement. I’m debating between this and the twin turbos???

I saw that. It’s a good price and I’ve been researching as much as I can. I’ll probably wait until all the bugs are worked out on both systems and go from there.
    Thanks!

I did tow and initial impressions it was great! I wouldn't even bother doing a re-gear anymore. The stock gearing and the additional torque is enough to make me happy. I'm towing a 2000# trailer and an additional 3300# on it (with tools, race ramps, bed rack, RTT) with 33" tires. I drove 126mi one way going averaging 11 MPG (uphill) and 14 MPG going back home. I took the 14 freeway here in SoCal which has I think about a 3-5% grade and the truck was able to power up some of the steeper hills with just one downshift. Before there were some sections where it downshifted twice. The real test will be going up the 5 fwy on Grapevine where there is a 6% grade, which I will be doing in about a month. This weekend I will be going to Chuckwalla desert on the 10 towards Palm Springs. There are some steep climbs there as well. We shall see but so far I love it. Finally a little more comfortable having my little Tacoma as a tow and overland vehicle.

i have been a long time member, but mostly read posts. This a great post as i have just purchased a 2020 SR5 3.5 and tow atravel trailer with it. It is a little lacking on power and i have looked at the Magnuson SC but am hesitant due to no EO#. So my guestion is with you guys in California how do you deal with the smog checks. I live in the midwest and feel it could be part of life here. Thanks and keep up the great work on this site.

In the same boat as you. magnuson won’t sell to customers in California until their CARB cert is complete (~Dec/Jan).

they have a few trucks they are using for the process and for calibration testing in state

I have two questions (asking for educational purposes, not to fight or upset anybody).
    1. When Toyota built the 2nd gen engine for taco, it was built with a S/c addition as an option in mind, and was taken into their Design considerations and spec. Is the 3rd gen FKS-2GR engine built with an S/c addition later on by TRD/Aftermarket vendors in mind? In other words, is this engine reliably capable of adding an S/c, or will such an addition make it go kaput eventually? Is it worth the risk?
    2. I'm curious to know what's going on about the issues with the fuel pump and fuel injectors not being able to handle the higher intake pressures and intake temps. Could someone kindly enlighten me on that? And how are the s/c manufacturer's solution to that problem ? They are surprisingly quiet about this matter especially with the Denso fuel pump recall.
Mat @ OVTune said he reached out to them and offered to partner; with his upgraded fuel pump and controller solution. (here's a side by side comparison picture from TT thread, stock vs upgraded Mat's solution).
Also, I noticed that MESO when he added his twin turbo kit from OVTune, he replaced the stock fuel injectors with Lexus LS500 fuel injectors (now hard to find nationwide) which has multiple nozzle ports (here's a side by side comparison picture from his build thread, took 30 mins to dig it out.)
Are folks who are doing the S/c mods also changing their fuel pumps, fuel pump controller, fuel injectors and fuel rails too? *(Although not sure if you can change to aftermarket fuel rails at-all because it's super tight and there's hardly any space in there).

I think Lexus has a TT 2gr variant out there.

Fueling upgrades are said to be "needed" after 350hp.

It was kinda both! I'm not that knowledgeable either, tbh. But I thought Lexus had a TT variant of the 2gr like our engine. AFAIK, the internals are forged, but that's just going off memory. I forget now.

And fueling upgrades are needed after 350hp, AFAIK.
