    You happy with the upgrade?

My rig... I tow an Opus4 and love my truck but it has no guts. I’m hoping this cures the HP issues for towing. If not, I’m going back to a Tundra.

The supercharger made a huge difference! It’s not like it’s a race truck now but I also don’t feel relegated to the right lane with the semis and other slow vehicles on climbs.

I think ~$1800 with service guarantee and warranty, etc.
****for those about to be triggered... yes I could do it myself, yes it isn’t cheap, but neither is having to replace something (if I messed it up the install) and these Kendall Toyota folks work directly with Magnuson and were cross referenced by each other.****

honestly $1800 isn’t bad especially if you are wanting the warranty continuation through magnuson.

I installed myself and it was easy, but I have no warranty from Toyota or Magnuson for my powertrain now essentially lol.

nothing wrong with that. when I had my 2nd gen I supercharged it and had the dealer do the install so everything was on them and it was warrantied. they're not difficult to install but I think like you, if something happened, it's all on them to resolve which is nice piece of mind.

This says a lot (to me). Attention to detail. I can't wait for more towing examples and the "post install" dyno.

I'm hoping to dyno sometime next week! I will post graph overlays with both runs as well as video. Stay tuned.

Alright everyone. I dyno'd the truck yesterday and the results are pretty amazing. A few notes before we go into the numbers. Both dyno runs, baseline and Magnuson, were done on the same Dynojet at European Auto Source in Anaheim, CA. Both runs are using same wheels/tires (16x8 285/75/16 KO2), stock gearing, and 3rd gear pulls.

There is a dip in the Magnuson run because the AT transmission kept shifting on WOT
(wide open throttle) - even with manual mode. OVTune run did not have this issue because I had the gear lock mod which prevents the gear from shifting. Differences are outlined below:
    • RunFile_5
      • OVTune
      • AFE Momentum GT Cold Air Intake System w/Pro 5R Filter
    • RunFile_12
      • Magnuson 2GR-FKS 3.5L V6 Supercharger
      • TRD Cold Air Intake
So what are the results? Magnuson setup made +81.15 whp and +52.16 wtq over the OVTune!

Although the peak to peak power comparison is great for high RPM comparison, the most important thing for me is the lower torque curve on the Magnuson. In the real world, this translates to better performance for functional purposes whether I am towing or just trying to pass people on the freeway. Now again, I wish the gear lock feature was on the Magnuson so we can do a WOT pull because that will show the torque curve better. The dyno operator had to modulate the pedal so the gear doesn't shift up so you'll see the starting power is lower than the OVTune, then drops again around 4K RPM because he didn't want to shift.

Overall, I am super happy seeing the results on paper, but I wasn't surprised at the numbers. The butt dyno gave me an idea of what to expect. I was looking to upgrade to a Tundra for better towing, but after this kit I am more than happy. I did a quick review of initial towing impressions in my previous post and the dyno graph explain the enhanced towing experience.

Dyno video with supercharger mic'd up coming next...

The base pull is also about 15 more than typical. Just a difference in Dyno and operator/weather compared to the one you used.

This pull does confirm some things I feel on mine. I think it may be limiting throttle below 2000rpm in some gears. Also at 6000 mine breaks up like that but still makes power. I predict if the redline was raised a little bit we would make a decent amount more HP.
    Overall looks great though!

also finally we will stop having people say “my OVTune truck is faster and has more power.” Lol

If they didn't tune out the stupidity in the air load table it definitely is limited in that ram range. I fixed mine and it made a big difference.

That OVTune torque curve looks so much better than stock Toyota tune. Are there any details about what changes were made to fueling and ignition for that tune or is it locked?
