The CARB approval is only for 2016-2020.

They were selling them to California customers before the CARB approval came, or just say yours is a 2020 or older...and there's a pretty good chance CARB will extended to the 2021's long before you're due for smog in 8 years

just watched a video about the 19 ranger getting 312hp at the wheels with a tune. just a tune. thats it. and its a 2.4l.
    https://youtu.be/h3o0hzBt8y0
I have to spend 8 thousand dollars to get anywhere close to that. quite the frustration.

The ranger is a factory turbo engine which makes that super easy to do. Pretty much any factory FI engine can see large power increases for cheap by turning up the boost.

Sorry man but this is a nonsense comment and here’s why… The ranger is turbocharged from the factory. So obviously a tune, downpipes and exhaust is all that’s needed to get significantly more power.

The Tacoma was not turbocharged nor supercharged from the factory. You need to purchase the hardware for forced induction and it’s going to cost big bucks regardless of the kit, (Magnuson, URD, OV tune turbos). The difference in price between those kits, (aside from availability issues), comes down to installation, maintenance, support, and fit and finish. They are all going to put down roughly the same amount of power as the limiting factor for forced induction on this platform is fuel. As of right now we don’t have an aftermarket fuel solution.

How is it a nonsense comment? They have a point. Toyota snoozed a generation too long with forced induction.

Yet I opened my wallet wide and still like my 2018 Taco. With that being said I am very tempted to jump to an oem FI truck.

Good point. Agree 100% that they are a generation late with the turbo tundra. I don’t think that was the OP’s point however…

Some of us may argue that the Tacoma is a generation late for FI as well.

Toyota WAS way out front of the competition with turbo'd vehicles as far back as the late 80s. The 2JZGTE is legendary for strength and reliability and was launched in 1991.

First off, can you verify that you got the right tune file from magnuson? did they give you a tune for *YOUR* ECU ID?

You mentioned a Toyota garage, did you do the install and flash yourself? If so I recommend flashing back to stock, reset all learned values, start the truck and let it idle for few (maybe up to temp, maybe less, but don't drive it). Then re-flash the magnuson tune and reset learned values again then see if it comes back.

Those are ignition coil codes. 351 references cylinder 1 specifically. Try swapping it to another and seeing if the code follows.

If I remember correctly, cylinder 1 is the front-most on passenger side. I've got a piston diagram somewhere... Lol

    Solid advice.
