I went to the offroad expo last weekend and stopped by the Magnuson space. I started that conversation off with "I'm going to ask the question that you guys get all the time and I hear about it all the time, anything going down with the 3rd Gen Tacoma Super Charger? I'm starting to think they're just like Big Foot; You hear about him, it's possible there's a big foot but I haven't seen any proof" She laughed and said yes we're working on it right now we're currently in the CARB process and waiting for that to finish. We're going to be releasing some more information towards the end of October and unveiling it at SEMA in November." she said that she couldn't show any pictures but did show me a picture of a tacoma with the hood down. So that's the info I got. I guess we'll see; @MESO let us know if you see anything from them while you're up there for SEMA ya. Till I hear otherwise it's still a big foot.

Hey guys, I think "bigfoot" might pop his head out, Magnuson listed a supercharger on their website along with a price!

They were saying that it should add about 100+ hp to the truck. It comes with a tune and to be honest 6k to fix 50% of the complaints about the truck isnt all that bad.

Personally waiting for the OVTune SC and TT kits to hit the market. Feel like OVT has more experience with the tuning side of things for these Tacos. A SC is no good if the engine runs like shit due to poor ECU coding IMO.

Also, obtaining +100 hp in the high end RPM range isn't going to be very useful. Most of us want that low end torque for towing or wheelin' applications. Matt at OVT is tuning the SC and TT kits to optimize low end TQ. He's taking time with R&D to put out a good product, just saying. Good luck with Magnuson.

Isn't the Magnuson a roots blower which does great for low end torque?

Turbos provide the most low end torque in the most efficient way. Roots are more inefficient since they draw power from the crank in order to power the blower. Centrifugal blowers are slightly more efficient than roots but take some time to spool up.

Superchargers FEEL like they provide more low end torque, but turbos have been proven (when set up properly) to provide the most low end torque in the most efficient way, hence why most manufacturers choose turbos over blowers.

You were talking about the centrifugal blower OV is doing as having better low end though?

I was (and still am) under the impression that OEMs are using turbos due to their overall efficiency against the rising governmental standards, and that it has less to do with power delivery.

As far as true superior towing prowess in that low RPM band I don't have any room to discuss the finer points of it. What I do know is that boost is boost... and it does amazing things.

My main point was that the tuning in these kits, whether its a TT or SC kit, is going to determine whether it becomes a successful product. From what I understand, it is hard to tune these 3rd Gen Taco ECU's, and in fact why Magnuson has taking so long to come out with a SC kit. Hence, I would rather buy a product that was developed by a company with experience with tuning these ECU's like OVT.

There are many advantages/disadvantages to centrifugal SC vs Roots SC vs turbos. My personal preference is to get a kit that will maximize low end torque which will be the TT kit. Both the centrifugal and roots will obviously add torque and HP, the question is where on the RPM band and how much. OVT has released some prelim dyno numbers for the TT and the SC numbers are coming. Curious to see what Magnuson dyno numbers are. But again, I think the tuning side of things is going to be critical for these kits.

yeah, smaller engines with boost is better for meeting modern emissions standards overall than bigger higher displacement engines. Not long before we see V8s go to the wayside in place of twin turbo 4cyls and v6s across the board, as well as more hybrid and electric models. Next model Tundra is no longer going to have the v8, TT 3.5l v6 instead.

Sad to say but the combustion engine era is slowly coming to an end. Can't compete with the HP/torque/efficiency numbers of electric motors. gas engines are old technology. Fun to drive but hard to argue with benefits of electric motors
