I wonder, just how many of you guys have ever retro-fitted a supercharger or turbo setup on anything? If you haven't you need to go on and get back on the porch and just watch and listen. First, right out of the box...did the Toyota engineers have the forethought and vision to equip the taco's engine block with enough excess crankshaft support to deal with the destructive loads it surely will see under WOT, considering all of the boost scenarios described above? Probably not. This ain't an LS or LT block. It is a block that was, at best, built by committee, with an eye to price point. At best it will require a girdle, as yet undeveloped. We also know that Toyota never intended for the Taco to really go off-road, don't we? Shouldn't it follow that we could also deduce from this that they didn't have the vision or intent to service factor the block for off-road duty or boosted service? Add in to the calculus that we suffer through the TCM's excessive shift programming. Then factor in that Magnason-type superchargers are known for their brutally instant production of torque that has been widely described as a hammer-effect of instant torque, ESPECIALLY down low at tip-off. No way to mitigate it. It is either hammering on, or off. Couple the two together and what you have is an already terrible driving experience that has been put on SC steroids as the TCM orders a two-gear downshift with attendant instant higher rpm, and in response the SC hammers in instant and brutal excessive torque to match that rpm increase. Oh, you gonna' love that. The drivetrain is gonna' love it too. And only 100hp for about $10K? OH YEAH! Have you ever seen a SC or turbo install that didn't necessarily require another $2-4K in ancillary parts to make it work right and last? At the very least, requires upgrading the fuel pump, (Lucky if it is just a fuel pump, if not controller, and then maybe even have to add a boost-a-pump bandaid over that to keep up with fuel pressure demand. Otherwise you are going to run it lean. You're talking $1500 at least to do the fuel right the first time.) Then, how you gonna monitor everything? With $1,000-$1,200 in gauging: A/F ratio, boost, fuel pressure just to name the basics. So, conservatively, $10K for 100hp. Madness. You can buy a UTV for that, trailer it with the Taco and when you get there, have a whole lot more fun.

When, what month was this tested, and what were the ambient air temps when this was tested? What was the air temp post supercharger? 110, 145, or 195? Was it tested in everyday driving, say, in southern Florida in the summer? Or Arizona? Or SoCal stop-and-go freeway driving? Or in Houston's 3-season heat? Any larger intercooler options for these locales and others that will see massive heat soak? Using the larger intercoolers, how much timing had to be pulled in the heat to prevent detonation, and what was the hp with that much timing pulled? $, and more $. Ultimately, will we need to include an alcohol system to make this work? The problem is not with the supercharger, but with our truck design, and how and where we use them.

Yeah, you can force-induct it, but remember, the candle that burns the brightest also burns the shortest. Guys, you can get a base Mustang GT with a Roush supercharger on it WITH A FACTORY WARRANTY, WITH A COYOTE BLOCK for less than $40K. 700hp. Now that's a real SC setup. WITH a FORD FACTORY warranty. So to contrast these two choices: As a Soviet super-heavyweight Olympic weightlifter once replied to the press when asked about a Turkish lightweight weightlifter who was lifting, pound for bodyweight pound, MORE than the superheavyweight, the big guy replied, "Who wants to watch little men lift little weights." About the second or third time you get your ass stomped leaving a red light by a grey-headed old fucker like me you are going to wish you had heeded the advice above. Ask me how I know...

so I think most people on tacomaworld are excite for this because it adds one more thing they can do to their truck to keep them interested in it instead of trading it in after 3-4 years when they get tired of it. Modding keeps the truck interesting, as with most mods, they void warranty and some mods cover issues that were caused by the mod. Sorry you’ve had a bad experiences in your life man, truck or being an orphaned child. I think if you share your experiences with a manner of speaking “experience“ instead of resentment and a sense of being superior you’d feel more fulfilled and more people would listen my 2 cents dropped.
