Will the drivetrain survive the extra torque and horsepower from a supercharger? 0.o

It’s never been an issue on previous Tacoma’s 4runner or Tundra. So I would say no. Biggest issue is usually in the tuning and fuelling.

We know they’re building one for testing on the 3.5 so why doesn’t Magnuson give us a little bit of comfort and update on their progress? It’s not like it’s a top secret military DARPA project.

After a quick drive from Denver to Colorado Springs along I25 (75mph speed limit), this supercharger can't get here soon enough. I'm about ready to sell my 2-month old truck and get back into a full-size. It's not like the fuel economy of the Tacoma is any better than my old '14 Powerstroke.

Not just that. Driving out to Utah from CA, near saint George and those mountain passes out of Mesquitte NV, through Hurricane the Tacoma struggled. I had guys with F150s pass me on flat and inclines towing trailers...

just felt like keeping it in S4 the whole time. as keeping it in D, it would hunt for gears.

If you bought a Tacoma for power or fuel economy... You bought the wrong truck.

Toyota mislead everyone with the Atkinson cycle.. Turns out the engine is not usable in truck in economy mode with the 3.5 So the swap pointless from the 1GRE 4.0

I just bought a 1988 7.3l f250 diesel from a friend for 600$. Runs like a champ and gets 20 mpg lol. Course the ride is harsh vs my Tacoma. Drive the Ford as a beater and log truck. Keep my Tacoma at work for trips.

They had an improvement of 10% in fuel economy without changing HP or Torque. That's pretty notable.

Yeah I don't think it's a power issue per say, but rather the delivery. Although I wouldn't complain if I had more HP.

I actually like the motor, but I got a 6MT. It's very capable offroad and makes a great daily driver as well. No complaints here.

@hookembevo The horsepower is definitely not the same as the 4.0 it’s something like 40 hp more but the horsepower and torque on a 3.5 L linearly comes in at 800 rpm’s higher then the 4.0. It’s not in the same driving RPM and pattern. Given a few aerodynamic tweaks and the fact it’s a six speed that really wants you to be in the highest gear at a low rpm I’d say 10% more fuel economy is total crap from Toyota.

Manual here and I can say the power from 60-100+ mph is increadable, no supercharger needed.

There’s plenty of owners who have an enormous amount of issues with super chargers even right after install.

Also, it definitely doesn’t increase resale value because buyers expectations is the vehicle has been beat on.

But, if you have the extra $5k+ they’re cool and fun with the added power.

typical lift, 32's blacked out, intake, exhaust, sprint booster, doug thorleys,, good truck, but since gone...
This is what scares me, quite frequently we drive from az to san diego and I fear the mountains in between.. I always have a lift and atleast 32's/33's so I would imagine this would be a nightmare for hours..
