Sorry I meant without decreasing hp and torque. Real world mpg differences are defintely there. The third gen saves you quite a bit of fuel. I track mine religiously as do thousands of others on Fuelly.com. It’s by far the most fuel efficient 4x4 pickup I’ve ever owned and I’ve been driving only 4x4 pickups for over 25 years, Toyota’s and Chevys.

    LMAO!
Before I did any mods to my truck, my average fuel economy was close to 1 mile per gallon less than my 2006. Plus I've been reading other posts from people for the last couple years that are getting nearly the same or less with some exceptions.
Compared to the 2nd gen, it seems people who drive in flat/level areas are getting better MPGs whereas people who drive in mountainous/hilly regions have lower MPGs, again, in comparison.
    That's just my observation.

I drive in the mountains every day, This truck does just fine as long as u can have it downshift into 5th before u start the climb. All you have to do is tap the accelerator.

1st post here, lol.... I am reading all the threads about Superchargers before I flood you with questions. The SC seems like a viable solution for my current situation. My 03 V6 Taco is gutless, especially with 33" tires on it. I installed heavier springs and air bags for towing. I don't tow often, but when I pull my Toy Hauler with my truck, it's dangerous as hell because I have no power to keep it straight. Of course I'm pushing the limits of the truck, but I just need a little more power and this may be my solution.

Without getting into economic detail, I don't want to spend 20K on a used 08 Tundra (that would be my choice) right now. I know when I was 19 y.o. a buddy had a Turbo 4cyl Taco and that truck was super fun!! He did blow the turbo up 2X and it was a dealer install. So, I assume they make a turbo, however I'm reading that they do not make a bolt on turbo for the 3.4L. I'm fairly positive it was a factory option back in 87/88/89.

I just did my waterpump and timing belt at 100K, the weak link I have is the automatic transmission, I'm sure to kill it if I keep driving the truck with a 5000lb camper behind it... Yes, I know what your thinking.

A SC on this truck, which has a new frame, trans cooler, heavy springs with air bags and other upgrades, will probably be good enough for my situation. I'd like to keep this truck for a few more years and then look for a Tundra, so this may be my solution.

I just hope I don't have allot of trouble with the ECU tune, hopefully I can read all the past threads and answer all my questions.
Such as who and where is the best price? What else SHOULD be upgraded at the same time? Are fuel injectors and headers required for top performance? Where do I get support with the ECU or is there a chip? If I can't find the answers, I'll be asking...

You're in luck, Magnuson already makes a supercharger for your 03.

Old thread. Can't help but to search as we all know we want to add something to the engine! Wished there was more development information for us to follow.

I could see that a product like this may be a little early to come out considering half the market still has a loan on it. Not that that makes a difference to some, but to many it does. Also warranty concerns from lots of folks. But as the years go by the market starts to change a bit, people free up funds, owners become less concern about warranty, second hand trucks become more available, and people are more willing to spend the dough to slap on high dollar parts. Just can't wait to see what this produces.

I would guess the SC won't be available until mid 2019 at this point. Only option that makes a real difference is re-gearing to 4.88s. I use to use the ECT all the time to drive but even then it would still rev high and still hunted for gears at times. Re-gearing is a world of difference. After almost 75k miles on my 2016, I should have done the re-gear as my first mod.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
Is anyone doing this to thier engine WITHIN warranty? I feel like this would be an easy dealer cop out for anything and everything non body, interior or suspension related...most of you guys are still within warranty year wise unless your mileage is over that warranty period cap?

Also, if you have an extended OEM warranty, they can refuse if they get final say, right? I get they HAVE to prove it but nowadays they still don’t care...they’ll make you call corporate after saying no and corporate is just someone behind a desk that will side with a dealer regardless because all they heard was “super charged”...

If what I mentioned wasn’t an issue I’d be all over this. I didn’t read through the the thread at all, but does anyone know how much something like this would cost?

Tacoma sleeper baby! Now you have a reason for the “raptor lights” lol
