    Hello SoCal TW!

I've been itching to take my new TRD Sport DCSB 4x4 on a trail.

The truck is stock and I'll say I'm a novice/intermediate driver.

I've looked at a few possible options like:
    Cleghorn Ridge Trail
    Pilot Rock Truck Trail
    Azusa OHV
    Holy Jim

I would like it to be doable, but still feel like an off road trail experience.
Stream crossing, incline, decline, soft dirt, etc.

Oh, I plan on heading out Saturday morning if that makes a difference.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Alex

I did Rowher Flats last weekend for the first time in my '04 that I bought last month, it's a great off-road area. Out near the Santa Clarita Valley, about 45 minutes north of LA. Miles and miles of trails, from easy to difficult.

It was my first time offroading in 4wd (had a Prerunner before this) so I was new to it as well. There were many areas (especially after you get about 10-15 miles out from the entrance) that are 4x4 only, very steep climbs and descents, rocky/loose terrain...had to use the rear locker a few times to climb some parts. It's a great area to experiment in and improve your ability.

So sounds like two suggestions for rowhler flats.

I don't have a locker. Is that a "make or break"?

    Thanks for the responses

You have the TRD Off road package? If you do, you have a locker

oooh, sorry I was reading the description under your profile avatar. You'll be fine, the TRD Sport has a system that acts like a limited slip differential, which isn't quite as good as a locker but much better than an open differential.

The great thing about Rowher Flats is that there are plenty of trails with a number of options for all levels of 4x4. Once you start venturing on the outskirts of the park is where it starts to get trickier, but I'd recommend staying within the main area where you can get familiar with your 4x4 abilities before venturing off to the harder areas. It really is a great place to learn!

Ah.. Yeah I need to update that. I joined when I ordered the TRD OR and the build date got pushed out a month and I got impatient. They had the TRD Sport built exactly the same and I got it. Now I just need to buy a locker. Haha

    Great feedback.

I appreciate the suggestion and insight. Looking forward to getting out on a trail.

    Thanks

Didn't end up making it to Rowher Flats cause the GF wasn't feeling good.

Had to roll solo so I went to Azusa since it was close. Better than nothing.
