Or you can get an OR and buy the painted parts from Toyota. Color-matched grill and handles cost me maybe $225? If you want the side mirrors you only need the shells which were $70/each I think, if you want the turn signal indicators, then add that on top of it. My mirrors are so scratched up from taking an off-road truck off road (go figure) that getting them painted didn't make much sense.

I have found plenty of occasions where the locker came in handy, plenty. As for the "if you want to add it, do it later" argument, you might want to look up the cost of an arb locker and the installation, I'll take the one from the factory and be done with it from day one.

    Just my 2c

I have not had the opportunity to use my ATRAC in my new taco yet, but I used it at every off road event I went to in my FJ and it WORKS. Sure I'd love an ARB, but for me that was and if I break this one I'll upgrade kinda thing, untill then I'll take the factory warantied locker and traction assists and wheel away.

there isnt really any difference between the sport and SR5, besides wheels, a skewp, and seats....

No money, all went to truck...
This is a funny argument. Here's my 2cents

    Sport: looks
    OR: ability

Now you can argue that the "ability" is worthless and that's from experience with its use. If you've never used ATRAC or locker then you can argue that the sport is the better choice.

I've always been the type of guy that would take ability over looks any day. To me a sport is just a dressed up SR5. The OR is the "doer."

ATRAC has gotten me through stuff many other trucks couldn't get through, especially sand. It works. I can't see any valid argument that it doesn't. It just works.

Another deciding factor is the cost of 16" tires vs 17" tires. Usually 17" tires cost $20-50 more per tire. Over the life of the truck, thats some cash!

So it was an easy choice for me. My personal decision. Just depends on you.

I'm going to be as diplomatic as I can here:

    Stop.

The e-locker diff IS weaker, but it has fuckall to do with ring gear diameter. Both the e-locker and "8.4" (erroneously named) diffs have an 8in ring gear.

I'm not even going to get into the traction control debate. I've said my piece on that in way too many other threads. People can PM me if they're curious.

Getting back to the OP's question:

Buy an SR5 and build it. Both TRD trims are wastes of money if you're going to build the truck.

Used it to play with, but I never NEEDED it. Any situation that it came in handy, was because I wanted to get there...

The locker was another story. At full flex, the locker was useful. The ATRAC just felt like a jerky vibrator until I engaged it. But again, this was in a situations I tried to get in to play with the features...

I'm not arguing that ATRAC is completely useless...it has its place with everything else...I'm saying that it isn't the magical get you out of everything button. Many people portray it as such...

with the leaf spring TSB, the SR5's get the TRD bilstein shocks... so technically those arent even different.

I have the same dilemma. I have a 2010 Sport 4x4 db with 15000 miles on it and I am thinking about a 2013 off road 4x4 db They are giving me a pretty damn good deal on the 2013. Kind of like the blue compared to my Red also. Driving myself crazy trying to decide

Probably about 98% on-road, but if and when I decide to mob to some remote location and camp or trek down to some hard-to-reach remote surf spot I'd like the ability to be able to do so. Also I think I prefer the o/r look to the sport slightly.
