    Hello All,

Looking to see if there are any good trails in the great state of Maine, specifically. Willing to travel to other states as well. Within reason.

    Hey all -

I’m wondering if anyone knows of any trails they frequent in Maine. It’s proving to be pretty hard to find any land that’s not private property. I’d like to take this thing out other than just to work and back. Possibly New Hampshire as well?

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction!

NH has hundred of class VI roads. Just grab a gazetteer or Gaia gps and go check them out.

Never even heard of a 'class 6' road. Now looking into them, they look great! Thanks for the tip!

I go up to the North Maine Woods.

There are some old roads in rough shape and I’ve been down a few that I would consider trails. It’s a great time with awesome scenery and a lot of peace and quiet.

DITTO on the NMW... have to pay to play, but there are tons of abandoned logging roads. you could get lost for days, just be sure to bring comms, food and spare parts/tires/tools and at a minimum 10 gallons spare gas (no gas stations up there.. unless you make it to 46.935331, -69.741134 (only open tues-thursday? cash only, expect higher than normal pricing), or over to St Francis/Fort Kent, ME not supposed to cross into CANADA through NMW, but you can, there are small towns dotting the border with gas stations. nothing really on US side... was told there was a station/pump at estcourt station, but not sure..

I know a few trails down here in Midcoast area, but nothing to "make a drive for" MOST ARE over driven by fullsize rigs 35s or bigger large mudholes/ruts... there is one thats is a possibility, but I havent driven it in some years, Mt pleasant, some winching would be required, and probably a 33"+ tire requirement at a minimum.. trail gets you up to the top of the mountain/hill overlooking the knox county valley, and a look at Camden Hills (this you can drive the paved road, and climb the tower for a view of Camden/Rockport/Rockland harbors, as well as on a clear day a view of MDI Mount Dessert Island...) dunno when this will open due to coronavirus..

My mom lives in the Boothbay area. It’s usually my home base when I’m in Maine, but I have other family and friends all over the state.

Class VI roads are fun, but they can get way more technical than the forgotten logging roads I have run in Northern Maine.

The northern 2/3 of the state have LOTS of woods roads of varying quality. For the most part, the big land owners allow access to their roads. Some of us are very fond of the North Maine Woods, https://www.northmainewoods.org . I am somewhat familiar with the Stud Mill Road area east of Old Town. Lots of roads to explore there, just fairly flat.

    Where do you call home?
