Not sure, I was definitely the bug that day. My expectation wasn't Toyota specialist=cheapest, but they were miles apart on cost. Enough of a difference I probably wouldn't consider them for future work.

Like you said, lots to consider that a customer may not be aware of. On the other hand, there could have been better communication regarding what drove that estimate. Impossible to speculate after the fact ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I'm glad other folks have had a good experience with them.

Kelly Edge A/T or Falken Wild Peak A/T3W ?

I know there are about a billion tire threads. I figured I'd ask the Mainers. I do not care how a tire does in Florida, Arizona etc... I want to know how it does in Maine. I am looking for a good 4 season all terrain tire. I like these 2. I am open to suggestions.

Ive run BFGs on everything ive owned up here.. grand cherokee, wrangler, scout, taco. Tundra is getting them when the stocks wear out. Even my shit-assed chevy work truck that sees 20-30k miles per year with horrid winter access roads along the pipeline has em. No complaints. Theyre quiet, wear great, stick, but they’re heavy (all mine are/were E-rated).
That said ive never run the ones youre asking about so nothing to compare it with.. :notsure:

My Yokos were chewed up way too quick. I am thinking about KM3s and possibly doing studded in the winter.

Just gotta keep up with rotating them and they seem to last.

For what its worth Mark @BRUIN8124 they make two different flavors of those KO2s. One is winter rated (3PMSF) and other is not. As far as I know only difference is the rubber compounds. Not trying to sway your decision, just something to keep an eye out for

Had to bring my work truck to the shop for a sticker this morning and was told I need a new set of BFGs (got about 50k miles on mine), coworker got approved for Firestone ATs or whatever and was miffed, service managers like ‘fuck those BFGs, expensive assed things. The firestones are better anyways’

I run Firestone Destinations on Jeep and Tacoma.
For what I use my vehicles for, they work great.

He was using the Firestone Transforce. They wear like iron but I never cared for them on any of the trucks I had to run that used them

I didn’t need anything “Luggy” and the jeep had them through a couple of winters so I knew how they acted.
So before I retired they had a sale at the shop and I finessed the tire dealer
and I got them for a great price ..

I got the luggy tires on my jeep but for what I use it for (getting ice cream with the wife and kiddo) I could put rubber bands on it and be fine.

I went with 285/70/17 E-load GG AT/X as they are what was available to me from the shops I had called (tire shortages), I did some research, and read reviews, and they wear well. definitly quieter than the duratracs... but not as agressive in the outer lugs.. definitly heavier than the 265/70/17 C-load Duratracs I had by about 20lbs per corner, definitly need a regear now (pricing out my options ratio/locker etc... atm). really dont need the locker atm.. but if I do it now why pay for install twice? and I can always cap the front locker until I get onboard air (ARB front locker likely, and would force me to get onboard air sooner/quicker).. I did order the SSO 2nd stage front bumper wings.. but they are on a 10-15week lead production time...

I can speak first hand on this topic. I currently have Kelly Edge A/Ts on and have had them for about 20-25K miles. I'm not thrilled. I got bent over at Tire Warehouse because I really needed tires and it's what they had. Almost $800 something and they would not put it on the alignment rack. I had to really negotiate with them to not charge me more to actually mount them. I have driven around the country this summer with them and am just getting into some snow them this year after 20k miles of wear. They don't stop great at all. They do ok in 4 wheel drive with like acceleration but turning is so so and I've slid down many driveways with them even last winter with 8k miles. They are average quiet for an A/T. One on the front wears on the inside and one is starting to cup, I rotate every 5k. One on the back in the center is almost bald and I only run 35psi in all my tires.

I had Falkens on my ranger before my Tacoma and they were MUCH better. I have the Edge in a 265/70/17 and the Falken on the ranger was a 245/75/16. If I could do it over again I would have waited and ordered Falkens of Amazon like I did my ranger and had Walmart put them on. This is by far the cheapest way I have found to do tires and my experience with the Walmart in Farmington is they do a FANTASTIC job with balancing. I also wanted my tires rotated on my cross country trip this summer so I found a Walmart in SD and they did it for free. I think they only charge $15 a tire to mount and balance in the first place. The falkens were quite, wore really well and looked new after 10k miles. They also did great even in hard pack snow and ice.

My truck came with Firestone Destinations A/Ts that were half worn and they sucked. Terrible in snow and loud. Not to mention they would not balance and it was so bad that I just had to get the Kellys Edge A/Ts because its what was local.

Hope that helps! I do a mix of all types of driving, highway, hard pack snow, loose snow, dirt, and mud.

I just replaced a set of the Falkens that I had on my truck with another set of the same tires, Wildpeak AT3W. They are rated at 55K miles but I did not get near that. Of course I did not rotate them as much as I should either. They have performed well and I have been pleased with them. They have become noisy at the end of life, but again, probably because I did not rotate them often enough.

I shopped for a new set last night and my go to tire place is discounttiredirect.com. They had a set of 265/65-17 Wildpeak AT3W for $225 on their website. Amazon had them for $175.50. I sent the link of the lower price to discounttiredirect.com and after an hour or so they sent me an email and offered them to me for $166 per tire. Do I want the road hazard warranty? Nope. They offered to give me one $22.50 certificate for free if I bought the other three so I charged it to their credit card, saved $60 in the process and paid $6 for four road hazard warranties for the tires. With tax and $4 tire fee I have them on the way for $707 shipped. Would have been over a $1000 if I had ordered off their web site. The salesperson told me 3 times "Wow, that is a good price!" I am pleased. Free shipping but slower than normal at 5-6 business days but I would not be shocked to see them by the middle of next week.

THAT IS A VERY GOOD DEAL!

I am actually going today to get the Falkens. For the most part, people on here seem pleased with them. If I see anything there that I like better, I may go a different direction.

I try to be good and rotate my tires as needed. I slacked on that BAAAAAD with the factory Goodyears. I only got about 36K. (Which is BS for any tire)

But yes, they need to be replaced either way. I was in some light snow last weekend and it was sketchy as hell! I was "that guy" driving extremely too slow on 95 heading up to camp.

Thank you everyone for the input!
