I can't do the 1st gen. Not enough room in the back seat. And I know what you mean I'm open/open and it really bothers my buddy who has a elocker 1st gen. I think a lot of it comes to driver and suspension setup. I normally drive 2wd until I can't because that really bothers him when I'm still in 2wd and just ran his 4wd line.
The locker is more of a safety thing. With a wife and 2 kids in the truck if it gets slippery I'd like the extra security of traction. I'll be working on a full overland build on the taco. I have a lot of the parts already just need a platform.

I need to look into getting a Gennie. The house is wired for it, with a transfer switch and outside plug all set up so all I'd have to do is plug and play. And we usually lose power for a couple days during the winter.
Just never felt like I needed it because we've got wood heat and a hand pump for the well.

Problem is that I wouldn't feel like maintaining it. It's a decent-sized investment for something I don't really need. Usually that money's reserved for things that go bang, haha!

But being able to do things normally is great. My small one only runs furnace and fridge. So not having to pull the fridge out to connect or play with the furnace will be so much better. If it's wired it's a no brainier IMO. Your situation is different but being wired I would have had a big ass gen a loooong time ago.

You can get used gens pretty cheap as long as they are maintained. Change the oil and plug at a certain hobb time. 20 min tops. I've lost power for days. Without my little one we would have been in big trouble.
Hand pump. Fireplace. Nice.... But still....... ITS ALL WIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol

I'll keep it in mind, maybe after the holidays I'll be in touch about it. Right now all spare $$ is going towards Christmas shopping.

I have a 7200/6000 Craftsman. Good old Briggs and Stratton will run forever or until it shakes itself to death. Starts second pull every time. From the time I get off my fat butt up to having the power on in the house is about 7 min and that includes lifting a garage door (without opener...my oversight...lol). Just push the genie out the garage door...plug it in and close the door. Flip to the pony box in the basement and voila.

Fridge, pump, hot water, a couple baseboards, some lights/plugs, microwave and TV/SAT/wifi. Not getting stuck again.

Honestly I'd only need one big enough to run the freezers. I've got a lot of food in them that would be damned expensive to replace if it spoiled due to a week-long outage.

We lost about $500 in meat a few years ago when we had an ice storm at Christmas so I hear ya. It was out for five days and we didn't have a generator until the final 24hrs of it. You could not buy one locally so we got one in PEI. (4hrs away)

Yeah, we were out for a week from that storm too. Did Christmas by oil lamps, lol. We stuffed everything in the fridge into coolers and packed them with snow, and didn't open the deep freeze at all. I wrapped it with a couple of space blankets and a quilt and when the power came back on I checked it and everything in it was still rock-solid, so I caught a break there. But if it'd been August I'd have had problems.

Did you use any primer/sealant on the holes to prevent rust?

I used plenty of black rvt silicone and used a small paint brush to paint the bare metal
