My 2009 Tacoma has 15000 miles on it and the check engine light " Maint Req" comes on and stays on. Is this some kind of bogus "take your truck to the dealer so he can screw you" type deal? What can be wrong with a truck with 15000 miles on it? It runs fine, smooth, no unusual noises, etc. Mileage is the same, etc.
    Just looking for ideas.

    Not enough.
Yep, change your oil. If you can't do it yourself then yes the light means to take it somewhere and get screwed.

Oil change and tire rotation intervals are at every 5000 miles, or maybe it is a trap. :D

Or 15k intermediate service... All newer cars come with the maintenance light that comes on every 5k, 15k, or 30k to remind people their cars don't go 100k without maintenance lol.

And to clear it after you change your oil....
    Set the odometer to ODO
    Turn the truck off.
Press and hold the odometer reset button.
Turn the key on (don't start it).
The display will do it's little dance and after about 10-15 seconds it'll be reset.
