How many times does the MAINT REQD light flash/blink upon start-up? I'm assuming it sequences at a set rate for all 2nd Generation Tacomas?

The number of flashes is irrelevant. It's just a mileage counter. At 4500 it will flash a few times and then disappear. At 5000 it will stay lit when the car is on.

I ignore this nusance light and turn it off when it comes on. I will always decide when it's time to change my oil.
Toyota put this light on for all of the naive people in this world who will in turn proceed to their dealership for unneeded repairs that in some cases are never performed to begin with.

Or turn it off after you get an oil change. (Some one got the oil change early)

If the lights not on when you get an oil change, it doesn’t always get reset.
I’ve had to reset more than a few for this reason.

I've had to read the first part a few times as it sounds exactly like what I wrote.

If the dashes are not flashing and counting down, as you depress the button then the reset is either A. not being done correctly and/ or B. Will not reset the light successfully.

    I meant as in,

Let’s say you had the oil changed at 4,200 miles. But you (or the tech) didn’t reset the light.
Then at 4500, the light blinks. And at 5,000 the light blinks and stays on.
You don’t need to change the oil. Just reset the light.

I’d say there’s been more than one service advisor that got a phone accusing the shop of not changing the oil. That or trying to “get more money” out the the customer.

    For example:

My 83 Grandmother changes here oil by date or mileage.
She still does the 6 month or 3,000 mile OCI, even thought she doesn’t have to.
I’ve had to reset her’s a few.....and try to explain why it came on even though she recently had an oil change.

Ahh, yeah. The whole change the oils in not reset the light thing. It happens. I hate it when places try to sell you an LOF despite the fact that they know you just did it just because the light is on though. Crooks. Lol.
